From there to the moon:
This looks like regular toilet paper but it can't be ripped or torn. Put a roll in your guest bathroom. Or in all the stalls next time you go to a fancy restaurant. How about the office bathroom?I often wake up during the night and my brain sometimes thinks about some strange stuff. But then that happens during the day, too.
Last night I thought about the French phrase, L'esprit de l'escalier. It translates literally, "the spirit of the stairs." It describes thinking of the perfect response to someone after it's too late, when you have already left the room, when you're headed up the stairs. We've all had that experience; "Why didn't I say....?"
Early this morning I decided we need another expression that addresses the opposite situation - wishing immediately after saying something that you could retract it, draw it back in.
How 'bout L'esprit de l'imbe'cile.
No, I haven't done it recently but I have done it! And will again.
Aubri's folks got a new dishwasher and graciously gave us their old one, a very nice Maytag. Our GE has needed replacing ever since Pam tripped over the open door in the dark. Both Pam and the dishwasher paid the price, but Pam healed.
I spent a couple of hours this morning making the swap, but I've got a problem. The toe kick on the "new" one (the cut in area below the door) is deeper on this one than on the GE. No problem, except that when they tiled the kitchen years ago they didn't take out the dishwasher to do the job; they just tiled up to the existing toe kick. So now I have an inch and a half of untiled floor in front of the dishwasher. What's exposed is some very faded vinyl floor tiles. Now what do I do?
No, I don't have any extra tiles.
I'm having a terrible time with almost all of the plants I've put in. Between the rabbits who see them all as food and the quail who want to nest in them, plus my inability to get desert watering patterns down, I'm losing stuff right and left. Right now it's the three hibiscus I planted. Even with the rabbit repelent they're getting all chewed up. I have always been pretty successful at landscaping and with vegetable gardens. But I'm gaining a new appreciation for gravel.
I'm exercised about tomorrow. I think the topic and the passages we're going to look at are particularly relevant in our culture. But I can't say I feel like I've got it all in place. I'll sit up with it tonight and rise early tomorrow morning.
Pray for your pastor. Pray for him as he prepares his messages and lessons, both for the studying part and the construction of the sermon. We all need it.
I'll let you know how it went tomorrow night.
