They cut off the two ends of the javelin and then sent him to the hospital where they removed the rest and sewed him up with 15 stitches. The coach of the guy who threw the javelin was asked what went through his mind when he saw what had happened. He said that when he saw them cutting the javelin he was thankful they brought a spare to the meet because they still had the final round of throws to go.
Nice guy, huh?
Apparently the kid shook it off, too, because he went on to win the meet.
I feel tonight a lot like I felt last night...whooped. I worked today finishing off the vinyl install, scraping off the old vinyl in the laundry room and putting down the new. I made some repairs to a couple of small areas that didn't turn out well in earlier steps, and then cut down a plywood shelf system her deceased husband made many moons ago. It needed to be shorter in order to fit in the room addition she had built a few months ago.
The few cuts it took to do that weren't a big deal, they just required careful set-up. But I did it outside on the driveway. Whew! We hit a record 110 degrees today. It doesn't take long to get to feeling pretty warm at that temp. Tomorrow we're looking at 114, another record for the date.
Thursday the forecast calls for a high of 75 degrees. It might be a good idea to wait until then to come visit.
You've undoubtedly heard the adage, "When choosing a career, find something you love to do and you'll never work a day in your life." That may be a bit simplistic. Thanks to Adam, all work involves some "toil." Hey, my current boss acts like a real idiot sometimes.
I've had jobs where I got depressed just driving to work, thinking about the next 8 hours.
Note: Working in the produce department of a large grocery store is not a job I'd recommend, even as summer employment.
But something inside me is terminally addicted to preaching/teaching the Bible. Classroom or Sunday services - makes little difference. Watching people take in God's Word, understand it and see it's relevance is a rush I'm not sure I can live without, at least for very long.
I really hope, and I'm praying that God will bless Pathway Bible Church. I strongly believe that what we're trying to be and do meets a deep need in our community. In the meantime I'm having a whole lot of fun opening the Bible to our group. I don't think I hit the mark every Sunday. Some afternoons I go home pretty upset with myself for not getting it right. But I'm always anxious to get back to it, whether in order to make up for a less-than-acceptable effort or to give the next installment in our series.
All of that to say that as tired as I feel tonight, I feel genuinely blessed and fortunate to be given the privilege and responsibility of opening God's Word to His people.

Eww! It's going to take me until morning to recover from seeing that picture. Poor guy!
