If you had your choice, would you rather own a nice late-model sedan with all the conveniences or an older head-turner in really good condition? Older cars lack modern safety features and they require more maintenance. They don't perform as well and parts can be hard to find. So which would you choose, a 2006 low-mileage Chevy Cobalt or a fully restored '71 Ghia? Or a '56 Olds?
It's not like I'm facing the decision, but if I was I think I might go with the head turner.
I spent six and a half hours today cutting the vinyl for two bedrooms and a hallway. That sounds like pretty inefficient work but a) Lowe's took forever to fetch it from the back, and b) one of the bedrooms included a closet and a sitting area and that involved seaming two 12' wide rolls and making all kinds of cuts.
Tomorrow I'll go back and remove the toilets in both bathrooms and fit the vinyl for them. Then I'll glue everything down and roll it out. I don't own a vinyl roller so I rent one from Home Depot. That means everything has to be done tomorrow afternoon. It'll be a long day but by the time I'm done I will have ripped out the old vinyl and carpet and installed new vinyl in every room of this double wide.
Oops. I have to do the laundry room, too.
I came home and re-assembled that bench I painted yesterday. If there's time when I get home tomorrow I'll load it in the van and deliver it.
Josh W. is taking next week off. His wife just had their third, a daughter, and his mother-in-law is coming to town to help out. So we're going to take a day for the back roads up to Flagstaff. I heard there are some great ethnic restaurants up there so we'll leave in time to have lunch in one of them.
Is Hillary Clinton a stubborn fighter who just can't bring herself to the humiliation of admitting defeat? Or is she caught up in denial, refusing to admit the obvious? Or maybe she's a very clever tactician, a politician of the first order. Maybe she has an end game that requires playing this out through all of the primaries. Pundits have noticed that her speeches since last Tuesday have had a very different tone, and instead of taking shots at Obama she's talked about the need for a change from the current Republican administration.
If she does have a plan it may not work. So we may never know. But the Clintons are not exactly novices at this game.
This Sunday we'll look at the next section in James 1, the verses about asking God for wisdom. We'll talk about the ways in which God answers that prayer.
Who do you know who is wise? Who sees situations and people clearly and understands the way life works? Who gives wise counsel? If you were in a bind, even one of your own making, who would you go to for advice?
