Of no consequence

I don't post pics of the family as often as I should. Last Sunday we took some of people at Pathway to use in a brochure about our church and this is one of our grandson, Caedon. It's a noteworthy photo because a) he's sitting still, and b) he has a serious look on his face.
Incidentally, that's a very MacDonald visage. If you saw a picture of his great grandfather at a similar age (we have one) you couldn't miss the strong resemblance.

I've riden the motorcycle enough lately that my hands are a shade or two darker than my arms. I wear a riding jacket but not gloves. And at the beginning of May I already have a very distinct tan line at my ankles. When I work or play golf I wear running shoes and short socks; hence the line. Last summer my kids forbid me to wear sandals in public because it looked like I was wearing white ankle socks even though I wasn't. Already the case this year. Oh well.

Pam worked today so my plan was to have the new microwave installed before she got home. But I can't get the old one out by myself. I can't get it to release from the back plate. Those things are heavy enough that I can't wrestle with it and look at what's going on at the pivot point in back, so I'm waiting until she gets home for the second set of eyes. If all else fails...sawsall!
When I disconnected the vent that runs up through the cabinet out fell a little birdie. A very dead little birdie. I don't plan on hooking the new one up to the vent pipe; I'll just vent it out into the room. But now I know I need to put a screen of some kind up on the roof to prevent other birds...or worse...from finding their way in.

Speaking of fatalities in the animal kingdom, did you hear about today's running of the Kentucky Derby? The pre-race favorite, Big Brown (sponsored by UPS) won going away. The second place horse was a filly named Eight Bells. Immediately after crossing the finish line she broke both her front ankles, went immediately to the ground and had to be euthanized on the spot.
So who gets her prize money? She didn't have any offspring.

As long as we're on a dead theme...
I decided it would be fun to participate in Tuesday's code drill at the hospital - the one in which Pam plays the part of the dead person. I figured I could play the hysterical spouse who gets in the way, wailing and throwing myself on her. Or, I could interrupt them and say, "Ah, don't bother. She really was pretty annoying. How 'bout I sign a DNR and we just call it a day." Then a third alternative occurred to me; just prior to the alarm I crawl into the hospital bed with her. That would give those nurses rushing into the room a start!
Pam's boss actually thought it was a good idea for me to participate, but I think that was before Pam told her my ideas.
I'm working anyway. Probably a good thing.

I saw a Smart Car on the freeway this morning coming back from Scottsdale. Sure looked like a toy among all the trucks and SUV's. Driving that on Phoenix freeways at 70 mph is not for the faint at heart!

Tomorrow in the worship service we're beginning a study of the book of James. This first sermon will look at the introduction, the "from/to" in 1:1. A look into the background of the author and recipients reveals some interesting and significant information. Something to learn from both.

I'm sitting on our patio typing this, and as I'm typing I'm watching a coyote walk across our lot, maybe 40' from my chair. When he first saw me he stopped abruptly, but once he realized I posed no threat he just started walking slowly from right to left.
I wish I had something to throw him for food. One of the rabbits who eats my plants, or maybe a cat.

Pray for your pastor. He needs it.
