This poor guy clearly does not understand the process.
I had a fun day. Didn't have time for a bike ride before my first appointment so I'll make up for it tomorrow, but I'm trying not to be so anal about my riding. Missing a day or even two in a week isn't going to mean a heart attack next week or a sudden 10 lb. weight gain. As long as I ride four or five days a week and make them quality rides I'm OK.
Sometimes I feel like my brain has a limited number of watts to use for thinking on any given day, and when those are used up I can only do lightweight stuff, low-demand tasks, for the rest of the day. I may want to do more significant work but my brain is out of power until a night's recharge. This was one of those days and I had used those watts up by noon. I really wanted to get another camp session fleshed out this afternoon but just could not focus or call up any creativity.
Part of that may be attributable to starting at 3 a.m.
Last year our 10-year old digital camera ran out of battery power half way through our vacation. The battery just won't hold a charge like it used to and it's too old to be worth replacing. And when you're tent camping it's not like we can plug it in for recharging. So yesterday I stopped in to Best Buy and looked at basic "point and click" digital cameras. They had several at $129, but you still have to buy a memory card and case.
At Steve's recommendation I looked online last night and found the same camera I'd decided on for $119, with no tax and free shipping by the time I added in a memory card (half the B.B. price) and a case (about a third the B.B. price).
Alas, I'm Scottish and spending money is really, really hard. So I didn't make the purchase.
I was awake and out of bed by 2:30 a.m. Not unusual for me, and I accept it as what is. No big deal. I read, watch Sports Center and surf the net, including Woot.com.
SCORE!
Today's deal is a Panasonic "point and click" camera with the same feature list as the ones I'd looked at, but for $69.99. Read all the data, checked lots of reviews and jumped on it! Then to Amazon to get the appropriate memory card (learning curve!) and case. All of that before 5 a.m.!
I taught school this morning. Intro to Homiletics, one of my favorite classes to teach back at the college and just as fun to teach now. This morning I taught it to Todd, one of our elders, who will be filling in for me on 6/31 when I'm off to speak at camp. This will be Todd's first time preaching (he's taught my S.S. class a couple of times) and I think he's terrified at this point, but he'll do GREAT.
Today we learned TIPIT.
Bullets, not shotgun blasts!
I went from his place to Burger King for lunch where I went through some stuff for Sunday and then home.
Brain brown-out.
So I went out to the garage and worked on Ilsa. If I keep the garage door down and have the fan blowing right on me I can work for a couple of hours before the heat gets to me. (113 degrees today.) I can hardly believe the gooey, oily mud that caked the bottom of the transmission - almost 1" in some places - but it's almost all off. I uncovered the drain plug today which means I can finally drain the little bit of gear oil that hasn't already leaked out. Then it's new seals, new axle boots, the rest of the brake install, new tranny mounts and repairs to the tranny linkage. Paint with Chassis Black and the chassis will be done. Hope to have that point reached before we go on vacation in two weeks. Then I can start on the engine when I get back.
Maybe the highlight of my day was a phone conversation this afternoon. God is good. Being one of his children is fun. The people are the best part.
Oh, and I didn't install those shelves this morning. Jonathan was born at 3:47 a.m., about the time I was buying a camera from Woot. I figured they might want to catch up on some sleep more than they'd want shelves installed.
More church tasks tonight, but nothing that requires any significant thought. Maybe some Pandora Joan Jett to keep me going. And Diet Coke.

I *love* it when that happens (camera)!
Oh no...I don't remember TIPIT. It's true: if you don't use it you'll lose it. I have to confess that I don't preach very often (unless you count to my kids). ; ) However, I do remember having to make a three YEAR preaching schedule. Do you make a three year schedule? Hmmmm...?
And congratulations to the shelfless family from your church! It is NO fun being overdue.
