This is what happens when Sun City residents have money and too much time on their hands. Note the rubber they're leaving as they round turn three.
Do you think they're racing for pinks?
Check out the top video to the right. Dude has moves!
They installed red light cameras at a couple of intersections near our house. For those of you who don't live in an area that uses them, these are cameras that take pictures of vehicles that run a red light. Even in the middle of a summer day the flash of the lights is obvious, telling a driver that two cameras - one that got his license plate and one that got his face - have just gone off, and that he (or she!) can expect a ticket in the mail.
At the intersection of 83rd and Union Hills the cameras went into use January 1, and until February 1 violators get only a warning. But beginning the first of next month that ticket in the mail will cost the offender $214.
The early statistics are in, and in the three weeks since those cameras went in, 1,690 violations have occurred. That works out to about 80 per day! It's one of those intersections that includes a long left turn lane that gets backed up during commute times, and drivers too often try to get through after the left turn light has changed.
According to my math, 80 violators X $214 = $17, 120 of income every day. Double that to account for the light at 91st and Bell, a mile away, and we're talking some major cash into city coffers. Of course the goal is to cut down on violators, so it will be interesting to see what happens.
Pam found army men! She went to dollar stores and found them in three different colors, which is ideal for my purposes. Army men in church??
Do you have color memory? My mom can have a green vase at home, go to the store, and pick out a green paint, or a green fabric that will compliment it very well. I can do that with black, but that's about it. Some colors are easier than others - reds are more forgiving - but she can do it with greens and blues, colors with lots of shades and hues, some of which don't go together well at all.
I think it would make an interesting study: test people's color memory over various lengths of time. I'll bet there's a wide variety.
How about taste memory? If you tasted a French dressing from manufacturer A, and then a week later tasted one from manufacturer B, could you remember A enough to compare them? How subtle could the differences be and you still catch them? Could you describe A as compared to B?
I can imagine situations in which poor taste memory would be a good thing. Not at my house, of course, but at some, maybe.
Former President Bill Clinton is making news more often than his candidate wife. Almost every day it seems like he's said something that shows up as a headline, and it's usually had a negative effect. This man is no dummy. Like him or not, he's got a well-earned reputation for being a very skillful campaigner.
It's almost like he's trying to sabotage her campaign.
You don't suppose....
We're legal! I got the paperwork back in the mail today, and Pathway Bible Church is officially recognized by the State of Arizona as a non-profit corporation.
I went for a bike ride this afternoon, the first since the 25-mile circuit 10 days ago. I'm feeling it. But it was nice to be out in the sun on two wheels. Upper 60's. Sorry.
I stayed up last night playing the canon game. I WON!! Got through the final level, 15, with a score of 172,000 points. I used up every last shot on two of the levels, including the last one, but victory was mine. I feel so ... manly!
