Saturday night ultra-light

The storm in the mountains of California has left some people stranded and in desperate need of aid.

I don't know about where you live, but here the movie "Dumb and Dumber" is playing across from the Presidential Debates.

Go Hawks!

It just dawned on me, tomorrow is Epiphany!

Tomorrow is also the first service of "As-Yet-To-Be-Named Bible Church". I am a male, so I internalize things. In this case, my nerves about the morning's services have me feeling....
Uhm, I'm a male so I can't describe it.
I really want to have fun tomorrow. I think church should generally be an enjoyable experience. Yes, there are times when circumstances create a serious mood but worship should be uplifting, celebratory. And what's better than being together in God's Word, learning & growing? So sometime between now and 9:30 tomorrow morning I have to learn to relax. This is, after all, a great opportunity.

This isn't as out-of-left-field as it seems, but the back story is too long to go into here.
So...
"Theodicy" is the term theologians use to describe the age-old question, "Why do bad people so often prosper while the righteous lose?" Theodicy asks, in situations when the wicked win, Where is the justice of God?
Several OT passages deal with the issue of theodicy, including Psalm 37.
At this point let's just remember that the good guys don't always win. We like our movies nice and tidy, with the black hats getting their due before the final credits, but real life doesn't always work that way. Sometimes the bad guys, the groups or individuals who are wrong - sometimes even evil - come out on top. Whassup wit dat?
I think the key is to remember that the final credits are still a ways out. God never said that justice would be realized in this world, in this life. Those of us who are Christians have a much longer perspective, a focus on the next life. That's where the accounts are settled. This means that in the interim we will sometimes get the shaft. So our call, our mandate, is to live righteously, love justice, and act biblically in all situations. When things end up with the wicked in the cat bird's seat we remind ourselves that we answer to the God of time and eternity, and entrust ourselves to him.

Having been in a Psalm 37 sitz en leben myself on more than one occasion, I appreciate the commitment of those who live out their Christian faith when the bad guys "win".
