But what's with all the movie trailers? I don't remember those from past Super Bowls.
I had a great time this morning. A very positive Sunday for Pathway Bible Church. We had a visitor, our first and an encouragement to all of us. I think we've found a temporary solution to our music problem. And although he's thinking back to things that could have been done more effectively, the preacher feels better about this sermon than he has the past several. He's had some difficulty doing "sermon" in a setting where just a few people are gathered in a home. He has found it too easy to lapse into teaching mode, a less structured and more fluid genre. This morning he kept things tight, more compact, and therefore more on point (or on proposition). I'm not sure he was as clear as he should have been in the second half of the sermon, but that gives him something to work on for next week.
Second hour we looked at the Bible's teaching on church govt. I admit to being completely geeked with the interaction and response. We looked at the Bible's clear and precise teaching on the matter, specifically the instructions about the selection, function and role of elders, and their relationship to the congregation. What the Bible has to say turns out to be very different from the policies and procedures of the vast majority of American churches, so different that I'm not surprised when Christians struggle to accept it. But this morning their reaction could best be summed up with, "well, doh!" The questions and discussion at the end of the lesson evidenced their commitment to following Scripture and an understanding of the implications.
We started the lesson by positing that, as the leaders go, so goes the church. Thus, following biblical teaching on the subject is essential. Pathway will, by God's grace, do it his way!
I'm concerned about my work, or more specifically the absence of same. I've had people say, "I'll be giving you a call" but so far those calls haven't come in. The bills, however are. So I've been praying about that.
I was pulling for Michelson. Bummer.
A baby seal walks into a bar and the bartender asks, "What can I get you?"
"Anything but a Canadian Club" replies the seal.
