Women say more with their faces than men do with their mouths.

I'll be up at 3:45 a.m. to shower, get gas, get to the airport, return the rental car and sign in for my 6:00 a.m. flight. By 10:00 I'll be back in the land of sun and foreclosures. I've had a great trip but I'm also ready to be home.
The Norders have been very gracious hosts; this is an easy place to be. I enjoy the opportunity to care for an even older lady than our Perry house (their place was built in the 1860's), and today I did some painting and fixed a kitchen drawer. But the people who live in this house are what make it special. That said, Jeff is in for trouble! That's Trouble, my friends. And that starts with T and it rhymes with G and that stands for GIRLS. Yes girls, my friends. Three of them. Three who are going to grow up to turn every boy's head who comes along. Get a big baseball bat, sir. You're going to need it!

I had lunch with Jimmi. He's going to be good. He'll make a difference for the kingdom of God. He has a tough 10 weeks ahead of him, finishing his last semester of classes, with exams plus his orals for licensing. But if you're buying futures, put money down on this guy!

Sunday at Pathway Bible Church we'll be continuing our series on the life of Abraham, and this week we'll look at Lot's rescue from the destruction of Sodom & Gomorrah. Genesis 18 & 19. We've talked about keys to reading OT narrative sections, including identifying the key character(s) in a narrative section, identifying the point of conflict if there is one, and - most importantly - looking to locate the spiritual lesson God wants us to get from the narrative. (It's never just an historical record.) In many ways this section makes for an easy case study for carrying out those exercises. But it's also a passage where the more you look the more you see. Sections like this warrant repeated readings because each one will reveal details and dynamics missed in previous readings. That can't realistically be done in the church setting so the preacher's job is to draw out the most essential features and show their relevance to 21st century living.
While Christians have sometimes been guilty of yelling that the sky is falling, there are far too many parallels between the Sodom & Gomorrah of Gen. 18 and western culture of our time.
Should be an interesting half hour.

OK, I gotta get some sleep. 3:45 is going to come awfully early.
