That's gonna leave a mark!

Sunday evening calls for lighter fare.

Some days are about faithfulness.
Thanks, guys!

Tom Brokaw is going to host Meet the Press through the elections. He wouldn't be my first choice. I thought Brian Williams did a very good job this morning and Lester Holt would also be a good choice IMHO.

Record daytime highs here, and tonight's low will be 82 degrees. Tomorrow I'm going to put up some shade cloth around shrubs on the west side of the patio that are getting fried in the afternoon sun.

The Saudis are going to increase their oil output from 9 to 9.7 million barrels per day by the end of July. Rep. Schumer (D-NY) says that's not enough.
WRONG.
The Saudis know that if the price stays high Americans will continue to cut back on our consumption, and the reduced demand for the only thing the Saudis have that generates income will decline. They are going to increase output so we'll maintain high consumption levels, and our dependency on Middle Eastern non-democratic countries will continue.
If we continue to reduce our consumption we reduce our dependency.
That reduction in dependency can be hastened to the extent we develop domestic energy supplies. Drilling off the Gulf Coast is decried by environmentalists as too risky, setting us up for an Exxon Valdez type disaster. But consider that, as evidence of the efficacy of the new safety design features, through all of the havoc that Hurricane Katrina brought, not a single drop of oil was spilled from any of the hundreds of rigs in the Gulf.
No nuclear power plant has been built in the U.S. for the last 20 years, largely because of environmental fears. We currently have 139 nuclear power plants generating 20% of our electricity. No one has ever died in this country as the result of an accident or malfunction at a nuclear power plant, and no "significant precursor" event (the term used to describe a potentially serious malfunction) has occurred since Three Mile Island in 1979.
France generates 99.8% of its electrical power from 59 nuclear plants. France exports 18% of its nuclear power generated electricity to other European countries. That is, France is an energy exporter.

Wimbledon begins tomorrow. Federer and Maria Sharapova. In the bank.

The Mona Lisa has no eyebrows. It was fashionable in Florence during that era to shave them off.
You were just a little behind the times, Steve.

Did poopeye have another unfortunate nickname?

On the subject of Nuclear power. Our United States Navy currently operates a few more than 100 nuclear reactors aboard about 80 ships. Over the past 50-plus years, the Navy has operated hundreds of ships successfully with a record of ZERO accidents. What is amazing is not the safety record per se, but that it was produced by a government agency. Therefore, if the government can do it, certainly the private sector could do it as well since they are motived by profit and losses as well as the threats of lawsuits in case of accidents.

IMHO.
