Pavlov - the name that rings a bell

The guy who published the calendar of shirtless Mormon missionaries was excommunicated today. Oddly, no action was taken against the guys who posed for the calendar.

Phoenix turns out to be the kidnap capital of the U.S. But what the news story didn't explain is that the overwhelming majority of those cases involve illegal aliens smuggled across the border by men known as coyotes and then held here against their will for more money.

We have one more session in the adult Foundations class on our doctrinal statement. (Foundations is what we call our educational hour, after the worship service.) I'm going to try something new for the next series. We'll be doing a survey of the four Gospels. We'll look at things like why we have four, how they're similar and different, the focus and purpose of each and how that shows up in their content.
Pathway Bible Church is committed to solid biblical preaching and teaching, believing that the Bible is God's primary modus operandi for maturing his children. That's why we're doing a sermon series in the book of James. This look at the Gospels in Foundations goes along with that. But in order to maximize our time I'm going to put together "note pages." I did this for a couple of my classes when I taught at the college but I've never done it in a church setting.
Lots of studies show that the more of the five senses involved in the learning process the greater the retention rate. That's one of the reasons I use a white board as much as I do. Taking notes involves the senses of touch and sight. A lot of the folks already "take notes" but I think this will make it easier and more profitable. The page(s) for each week's class will have the headings for the topic of the morning (e.g. authorship, date, original readers, etc.) and then space for them to write in the info we discuss. That should help them see the structure of each lesson and increase retention by making note taking easier for those who want to do that.
So, tomorrow I'm going to start laying out the structure for each session so I can create those pages.

Oh, I almost forgot! I ordered the doors today. And YES, 37 and 1/4" is the right width for the rough in! T'ank you, Fadder! I'll pick them up Thursday and install them Friday, along with the support brackets for the swings.

That's all I got tonight. Monday nights are only marginally better than Sunday nights.
Now I'm going to go see what I can find to eat.
