Japan has a weight problem. They've adopted Western life styles, including a diet high in fat and too little exercise. As a result the Japanese are getting bigger, and weight related health problems are on the rise. So the govt. has issued some new regulations (they can do this kind of thing there) and companies that don't get their employees to comply face financial penalties.
Among other things, men must have a waist of no more than 33.5". A woman's waist may be no larger than 35.5". Whassup wid dat?! Everybody knows that men, as they age, add their weight around the waist and women typically add it to their hips. It seems to me that a woman with a 35.5" waist is likely to be more overweight than a man with the same waist line because she's going to have additional weight around her hips that he won't.
I know. It makes absolutely no difference to me or anyone else on this side of the Pacific. It just seems unfair for the Japanese men. And we gotta stick together!
Speaking of unfair, political conservatives are already crying foul. Obama is heading oversees next week with announced stops in several countries in the Middle East and Europe. He'll undoubtedly make unannounced stops (for security reasons) in Iraq and/or Afghanistan. The networks are all planning on sending one of their anchors to follow along and report from the various stops. When McCain made the same kind of trip a few weeks ago no top-tier network reporters joined him and no similar satellite reports were filed.
Bias? Or is this trip inherantly more newsworthy? You make the call.
I picked up the doors this morning and delivered them to the clinic. I'll go in Monday and install them, along with the baseboard and the swing brackets. I thought about working on it this afternoon but decided I would have to go back in Monday anyway in order to get everything done so I might as well do it all in one session. I admit to being a little anxious about installing the doors. Will they fit? And since I've never installed commercial grade metal framed doors, will the learning curve give me grief?
A 3'-0 x 7'-0 solid core wood door is heavy!
It's officially hot here. Saturdays are my long ride and I'm trying to extend the distance each week. I'll be out the door just before sunrise tomorrow morning when the temp is supposed to be down to 85 or so. I should be home before we hit triple digits.
Two just for fun:
Some really odd looking sea creatures.
And then there's this one. The goal is to get the ball swinging and then click on it with your cursor. If you do the ball changes color - or so I'm told. If it does work like that I haven't been successful yet. Let me know if you are.
Click the ball
It's an F-1 weekend. They're in Germany. I'll be at church when the race is televised (I think they expect me) but I can catch the qualifying tomorrow. Look for it on SpeedTV if you're interested. The only thing it has in common with NASCAR is four wheels.
And speaking of wheels, I haven't been on my motorcycle in way too long. But with the gear on it's just too hot. I went out and talked to the bike this afternoon - told her I still loved her and would make up for it as soon as the temps drop a little.

Okay. This game is like the one with the little wooden ball on a string attached to the wooden cup w/handle--getting the right swing to it so the ball goes into the cup.
