"Baby, baby, how'd you get so fly?"After months of slacking I got back into a fitness routine in June, riding my bike in the morning and going to the gym late afternoon. I've got my cycling mileage up to about 100 miles a week. Last month Josh put together a routine that has me doing "push" lifting one day and "pull" lifting the next. I do that cycle three times a week, typically taking Sundays off.
Now I'm going outside to the pool after the gym and running when I get home. Those two are at very modest levels as my body's muscles adjust to these new efforts. I've got plenty of time before that sprint triathlon on Thanksgiving Day. But as you can see by this pic I had Pam take yesterday, with all this exercise I'm beginning to bulk up.

And I'm starting to get admiring stares from the blue hairs down at the rec center!OK, here's a warning you should take seriously. This video is not for the faint of heart. It's a clip of Janos Baranyai, a Hungarian weight lifter who competed yesterday at the Olympics. He had a little trouble with this lift, a clean and jerk.
He's OK. Only a dislocation.
If you watched the video you saw the volunteers come up with their sign boards. When I saw that I thought, "I've preached sermons when I wished there had been something like that to shield the catastrophe."
Hey, thanks to those who posted a comment on last night's post about songs with their town's name in the lyrics. Who knew??
The conflict in Georgia looked like it was going to move toward resolution, but Russia seems intent on exacerbating the situation. Credible reports indicate the Russian army continues to advance and target civilians. Today, Russia's foreign minister said the U.S. had to choose between a "real relationship" with Russia or an "illusory" relationship with Georgia. That's drawing a line in the sand! Sect. Condoleezaa Rice made it clear we "stand by the democratically elected government of Georgia." That puts the ball back in Russia's court. "OK, now what ya' gonna do?"
The longer this goes on, the longer Russia continues its self-described "punishment" of Georgia, the less it is about Georgia and the more it becomes an issue between the West and Putin. These former Soviet states have aligned themselves with the West, including connections with NATO. If the West allows the Russian aggression to go unanswered these now-democratic countries will get a clear message about their future vis a' vis what seems to be a new Russian expansionism.
I had b'fast with Josh W. this morning - my former student who now pastors a church in north Phoenix. It was good to talk shop, including some theological issues.
Pastors, at least this one, are keenly aware of their stewardship. I work for a great Boss, but he is appropriately demanding of quality work from his servants. That's a little overwhelming for someone also keenly aware of his own limitations. That said, I love what God is doing at Pathway and it's a great privilege to be a part of it.
