Well, I've done it. I just registered for the Sprint Triathlon. Paid my money. And if you know me you know that once the money's paid I will do the event. I've got until Thanksgiving Day to get ready.
S & M are signed up, and so are J & A. Pam has more sense than that. So the MacDonald clan is 1% of the total number of competitors (they cap registration at 500).
We went in to S & M's place to use the pool at their condo community. It's only 4' deep, which means I can stand up at any point. So I dumped my snorkel and tried turning my head to breathe like a normal person. I am now well hydrated for tomorrow morning's bike ride! But I did get better at it while we were there, and with a little more practice I think I may be able to pull this off. If nothing else I can pull myself along on the lane ropes. The run is just a matter of gutting out the hip issues.
If you really wanted to see the video of the Hungarian weight lifter but didn't get to it before YouTube pulled it, here's a slide show of still photos from that video. Apparently that doesn't violate copyright laws. But again, it 'aint easy to watch. So if you get queasy, pass on this one.

On our way into town we heard a China expert on NPR. He said it's pronounced "Bay Jing" with a J like in "juice." He had no idea why everybody on NBC is pronouncing the J as in au jus.
Do you talk to your pet? I did a small plumbing job at a house this morning - a place I've worked before - and she talks to her dog. Not like "Come, Spot" or "Stay out of that, Spot" (the name has been changed to protect the dog). She talks to this animal like it is a sentient being. When she opened the door to let me in the dog was right behind her, tail wagging. "I told him you were coming back and he's been very excited to see you." And she wasn't speaking figuratively. While I was there I heard her talk to it as though she was conversing with another adult human being.
This is not a dull lady. She has a Master's Degree in the medical sciences field.
I wonder. Does she really think the dog heard that I was coming and waited anxiously? I'm afraid she does. I think she's so attached to that animal that she has imputed human characteristics to it. Speaking of scary.
But I think the joke's on her. I think that dog is saying to himself, "I'm playin' her like a $10 fiddle."
