So, was it a stroke of genius or a giant mistake? Whichever the case, this Presidential election just got a lot more interesting. A young Black man and older Senator on one side, and a really old Senator and a young woman on the other. This has all the nuances of a Colts/Patriots Super Bowl, just with a lot more at stake. I assume that Gov. Palin has been very thoroughly vetted by McCain's staff, but you can bet the Dems are digging furiously nonetheless. And the pundits are already telling us this is a good/bad choice based on ______. The truth will out over the next two months, and whichever ticket wins this will be an historic election for our country. I certainly have my preference, but I also think that the barriers which will be broken in either case will bring growth for our society.

Today I had a conversation with a guy who looked to be in his mid- to late-20's. During that conversation the year 1968 came up. He commented that he wished he'd been alive then because of all the cool stuff that happened. "The Beattles were turning out some really great music, and Woodstock was in 1969." I asked him if he knew what else happened in 1968 and he couldn't come up with anything. So I told him that was the year that both M.L. King and Bobby Kennedy were assasinated, the race riots tore up major cities, and the Democratic convention in Chicago also brought serious riots. "Yeah, I guess there was some bad stuff."
It was not a good year.

I was going to pick one pic, but they're all good.

#1 Song on This Date in History

Today was a progress day all around. Pathway is moving forward in some key areas which I'll share with you when they're official. I got my new cell phone and, lo and behold, I have four bars inside our house! Imagine, my phone rings and I can answer it without going outside! (And even then it was 50/50 on losing the call.) Better yet, for almost the same price I was paying for my phone with AT&T, this switch to Verizon got a second line. So Pam now has a real cell phone instead of the "pay as you go" phone she had been using.
BTW, my cell # is the same, for those of you cool enough to have it.

Progress at the pool, too. Sort of. I am so uncoordinated that everything that involves body movement requires conscious thought. So while I now know that my head needs to be up and looking slightly rearward to breath, I also have to make sure I close my mouth before I turn my head back into the water. Should I have to think about that??

Sunday we'll talk about Barnabas, whose name means "Son of Encouragement." The prefix "bar" is Hebrew (OK, technically Aramaic) for "son of." That's where Bar Mitzvah comes from - "son of the commandment." How many men in the NT can you name whose name begins with Bar-?
Anybody wanna guess the meaning of Bat Mitzvah?
