I do whatever my Rice Crispies tell me to.
Joe Pa doesn't look like quite the irrelevant dinosaur now. Good win for the old man and Penn State.
Now, if the Rays can pull out a win...
I hammered a 19-miler this morning and came in with an average of 17.8 mph. Aaargh. If I had pushed just an ounce harder climbing that hill....
This evening we went to the annual neighbor's potluck BBQ at the home of the folks next door. About 10 couples in attendance and two widows, one of whom is 93 years old. She still drives...a Buick.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
This game is from a site called Math is Fun. IMHO the game proves that math is frustrating.
Cubulus
I got to level three. I think that one is impossible.
The significance of an event is not necessarily proportionate to the event's size. Much ado is often made of nothing.
Tomorrow at Pathway the inverse will be the case; with almost no fanfare we will take a very significant step in our progression as a church. We'll have a time of commitment as three guys join me in serving as elders.
The Bible says an elder should be willing and qualified (1 Tim. 3). It doesn't specify a specific number of elders; those who are willing and qualified should serve. The Bible doesn't specify a term of service; they should serve for as long as they are willing and qualified. And the Bible says nothing about choosing them through a democratic process; in every passage that speaks to the issue elders are appointed.
Three weeks ago I announced that after having met individually with each of them and then their wives, Matt, Todd & Josh have agreed to serve as elders. The congregation was encouraged to contact me in confidence if they knew of anything which would biblically disqualify any of the three from serving as an elder. Having heard nothing we will have a time of commitment tomorrow in our worship service. The elders will commit to serve the congregation as described in 1 Peter 5:1-4 and the congregation will commit to submit to their leadership as described in Heb. 13:17. We'll read those passages and have a time of prayer; this is a step we take before God (and these witnesses?)
The NT church had a plurality of elders. It probably goes too far to say that without that plurality of elders it's not a biblical church. After all, the congregations Paul established on his first missionary journey were called churches before he appointed elders as he returned through the region on his way back to Antioch. But tomorrow we'll take a critical step in our maturity as a church. As God blesses us with growth we'll add infrastructure - groups, committees, whatever - but none of that structure has a Scriptural mandate. Elders are God's design for the local church, giving tomorrow's segment of our service great weight. I hope I can communicate that effectively.
