I'm not depressed; I'm existentially challenged.

Aubri and I did a 5k together this morning. It was her first, and I haven't run any races in about eight years. We both used this as a tune-up for the triathlon on Thanksgiving, and felt pleased with our results today. The run portion of the triathlon is only 2 miles, so this 3.1 miles proves we've got at least that part of the event under control. Of course neither one of us felt like getting on a bike when we were done.
I really love my family, and opportunities like running a race with my daughter rate as special treats.

13 hours from now we'll have the answer to our question. Will our 10,700-piece mailing bring visitors? I've printed extra bulletins and visitor cards. I spent a couple of hours this afternoon scrubbing the floor in the studio room where the kids meet (dance floors get dirty and little kids like floors). People are bringing extra chairs and we'll have extra refreshments during the break. And I think we've given this the appropriate covering with prayer (if you have joined us in that part of the effort, thank you!). So what is God's will in this?
Lately I've been too whooped on a Sunday night to write a blog post. And tomorrow afternoon we have a going away party for one of the couples who are moving. But I promise to post at least enough of an entry to let you know how it went. Either way it goes we've committed to accepting it as God's good and perfect will.

This morning's race was a small event - maybe 100 runners. It was like a throw-back to the races I did in the late 70's. No timing chips, a crude route map tacked to a cork board, people on the 1-mile walk sharing the same narrow path with runners. But no matter; it was almost more fun for being simple and unpretentious. Like going to a small local diner for dinner instead of Applebees or the like.
After the race they had the usual raffle with donated prizes for entrants. Pretty modest stuff. Aside from a couple of gift certificates to local eateries it was nothing that had us waiting anxiously to hear if our number was called. They were late enough getting to the drawing that some of the runners had already left. So when the winner didn't come up to claim their prize they went on to draw another.
We began to suspect that the need to draw five consecutive names before someone came forward to claim the free piano lessons my have been due to something beyond runners who had already left.

If you have a multi-speed turntable laying around and too much time on your hands you might try this:

Time for supper (the meal that comes after dinner) and then bed. Big day tomorrow!
