Hardware is the part of the computer that can be kicked. If it can only be cursed it's software.

President Elect Obama has indicated he thinks cuts in defense spending may be appropriate.

Only once or twice in a lifetime does an occasion like this come along.
Pam went to the dr. this afternoon because she's had a sore and raspy throat for days, and yesterday began feeling generally lousy. The dr. told her she needs to rest her throat for a couple of days - do as little talking as possible. So not only is my wife under doctor's orders to be quiet, but I can tell her to shut up with impugnity. "Hey, I'm only interested in your health!"
We went to Paradise Bakery for dinner tonight so she didn't have to cook and could have soup (they make pretty good soups).
Just so you know I'm not a complete jerk.

I ordered Total Immersion, the book on swimming, last Saturday and it arrived today. I'll start reading it tonight. Brandie promises that the book will turn me into a veritable Michael Phelps.
I went to the gym & pool this evening. I have vowed to do NO more wuss stroke (aka side stroke). So I did as much freestyle as I could before needing a real breath, just a few stokes, and then rolled over on my back or, if I was in the shallow end, stood up. I figure my technique is antithetical to what I'll learn from the book but at least this will help get me over my instinctive panic with the rythmic breathing of the freestyle stroke.

The stock market took another dive today, a big one. They said it was the market's reaction to hearing that we are officially in a recession and have been for over a year. Nothing substantive changed; things are essentially just like they were when the market closed on Friday. But because the word recession was used by a governmental agency the market tanked. Are there any adults involved with this process?

We had an interesting article in the on-line version of our local CBS affiliate. The title was, "Are you an idiot to keep making your mortgage payment?" The reporter never clearly answered that question, but did explain that the govt. has come up with so many plans to help out people behind on their mortgages by 90 days or more that anyone upside down on their mortgage will have trouble finding a good reason to make the payments, even if they can.
"But what about a moral obligation to pay off a debt?
"Elected officials have been chipping away at that by blaming the foreclosure crisis on predatory lenders."
In other words, Congress has told the delinquent homeowner that it's not his/her fault, so he/she doesn't have any burden of responsibility.
Never count on an elected official to tell us the truth if it's something that we might not want to hear.

The Senate confirmation hearings on Obama's choice for Secretary of State should be particularly interesting. Will the opposition party go for the jugular, or play nice so as not to look like sore losers taking cheap shots?

Two silk worms decided to race. They ended up in a tie.

I'm going to go read about swimming.
