This is gonna leave a mark.
Please, Mr. President, don't do it. Don't give the Detroit Three money from any fund, the $700 billion TARP funds or any other source. They didn't get money from Congress because the UAW refused to accept one of the conditions - that their workers accept a pay cut that would put them at the same level as the non-union workers at U.S. plants run by foreign manufacturers. We're talking a drop of $3-$4 per hour.
As a taxpayer, a member of the group that will be fronting this money, it infuriates me that the UAW is holding us hostage. Like schoolyard bullies they demand that we play the game their way or not at all. This is the same approach that helped create the mess Detroit is in now - high priced cars that still lose money for their companies because of unrealistic labor costs. Unlike those companies, I say we call the union's bluff. Either the members will wake up to the reality that their union reps are driving them to self-destruction or they'll take the deal and save their jobs.
But if you fold, give in to the union's bullying tactics, the Federal Govt. is as foolish and short-sighted as the Detroit Three. And we see what that led to.
Man up, Mr. President. You've only got a little over a month to go. Don't allow greed on the part of a few to force the many into a commitment that is neither fair nor wise.

I'm looking forward to Sunday. That's nothing unusual, but this one should be especially interesting. In Foundations we're to that point in the chronology of the OT that I think most Christians don't know anything about. And that's too bad because this one event is critical to a proper understanding of the second half of the OT. Everything changed for Israel in 926 B.C. Get a handle on that event and the rest of the chronology falls in place, and the prophetic books start to make a lot more sense.
And this week or next we'll introduce the famous "Balloon Theory of Ancient Geopolitical Relations." I'm guessing there are some blog readers out there who remember that from BL 101.
My brain is really ready to get back to running and riding. I even wish I could get back to the pool work. But my body isn't cooperating in even less vigorous efforts. Frustrating.
'tis the season for company Christmas parties. Pam's is next Sunday night - a gathering for the staff of 5c at the home of one of the nurses. That got me to thinking that Capital Property Maintenance hasn't scheduled company party. OK, the last three or four months have been pretty lean, only if you count no work as lean. But that doesn't mean the company staff shouldn't get together and let loose for an evening. I've decided to open it up to spouses, but I don't know what we should do. Given the limited funds in the party budget I was thinking the #1 combo meal.
