"I've wrestled with reality for 35 years and I'm proud to say I finally won out over it." - Mary Chase
Al is home. (So are we.) So far everything is OK. He's a little anxious but that's to be expected. He's four years old and everything has just changed completely. He's walking on different surfaces, smelling different smells, seeing different things.... Four years of routine and the stability that comes with it have suddenly ended.
The dog in the mirror is going to be a problem; he won't come over to play. There's another dog in the oven door - same thing.
Al has a last name. He and his litter mates were all named after characters on an HBO show that we've never seen because we don't have, won't have HBO. I looked it up on Wikipedia and his namesake is NOT a nice person. So we need to ditch his last name. But it's stuck in our heads.
On the way home we talked about how nature hates a vacuum. If you want to get rid of a thought you can't just will it away; you have to replace it with something. So we talked about options for a fresh and more appropriate last name.
I suggested Al Earnest Babba. But he'd only use his middle initial.
After a few miles in the car with Al we wondered if a more appropriate name would be Al Fartsalot. They warned us that flatulence is often characteristic of the breed, especially when they're stressed. So I guess we'll wait to see if this passes.
GM is dropping Pontiac. Realistically that's probably overdue and won't make much of a dent in model availability. How many Pontiac models can you name? They have a bunch of them that have G plus a number, and the Solstice. I like the Solstice, it's supposed to be a pretty good runner, and the new coupe looks good, IMHO. But it's the same car as the as the Saturn Sky and making the same car twice with only cosmetic differences doesn't make a lot of sense. Which is why GM has been doing it.
Note: Some auto writers say the Saturn line will be the next to go.
On a related note, I saw a Jaguar station wagon yesterday. Why does Jaguar make a station wagon, and why would anyone buy one?
To call it a meeting suggests that there are action items on an agenda, which isn't accurate. This will be an information session. We're going to use most (all?) of Foundations this week to talk about Pathway so folks know what's been happening and what the future might look like.
I use the word "might" because we've learned to understand all things in the context of Deo Volente (God willing).
There's a fine balance between planning and presumption, a line it's difficult to see with absolute clarity. The best I know to do is use the knowledge God gives us to the fullest extent possible, do all the homework they sometimes call due diligence, then ask God for wisdom and accept whatever outcome he, in his perfect sovereignty, sees fit to send.
Over the last few weeks we've upgraded our website so that people who search for a Bible church online will come across Pathway and be favorably impressed by what they see. We've had an ad in the local newspaper's Friday "Church Page." And Monday the first batch of our direct mail piece will go out. Twelve hundred pieces on each of three successive Mondays.
The outcome of these is in God's hands. But I think we'd be foolish to put this kind of work into outreach and then not give thought to what we'll do if our efforts bears fruit. Sunday we'll look at what the options might be. At that point it's easy to get excited about the possibilities, presume it will happen like we want it to happen when we want it to happen, and get way too far ahead of God. So we'll work hard to keep our enthusiasm in check while still believing God can bless beyond our imaginations.
See what I mean? It's hard to find that balance.

Thanks for the much needed laugh tonight (about the dog's name ---and the jaguar station wagon).
:0) I needed that!
PS... hope Al's first night goes very very quietly.
I'm waiting for you to post some pictures.
