Truth is so much more fun than fiction, and the news provides the best stories.
I like this one out of Sparta, MI, just up the road from where we lived.
A woman wakes up in the middle of the night to the sounds of an intruder. She finds the door downstairs open, as are the drawers of a dresser. She goes outside and sees her neighbor sitting in her car, wearing nothing but a purple bra and boxer shorts.
OK, several questions come to mind at this point. First, why is this woman not calling the cops as soon as she realizes she's had an intruder? Why does she go outside, and how in the world is it that she can see what this guy is wearing when he's sitting in her car...at 5:30 a.m.?
Why did the reporter think it was relevant that the bra was purple?
And doesn't this guy know that with a colored bra you always wear briefs?
Can somebody tell me what this is about?

This is a pretty sophisticated web site, not something thrown together on the cheap. And it was advertised on ESPN this morning, relatively expensive air time. But it's clearly a spoof.
Whassup?
While we're working links and ESPN, here are two college football players who have put together very brief videos trying to impress pro scouts, hoping to make the NFL.
This first guy jumps into a pickup truck. No big deal, you say? Wait until you see how he does it:
Keith Eloi
Not bad, huh? So how about a guy who jumps out of a pool?
Jarron Gilbert
The guys on PTI this afternoon debated which feat was more impressive. Gilbert fights the drag of water so his jump is arguably more difficult physically. But Eloi is going to pay a much higher price if he gets it wrong.
I picked up the CD's today. They look good. I made the right decison.
I mailed out that first order and will send out another one tomorrow. Only one CD in this case, but again, it's nice to know there is at least some demand for this.
We had our monthly elder meeting tonight. I could not want for better men with whom to serve. Precisely because God has recently blessed Pathway we have some significant issues in front of us. We talked about that as we ended our meeting - how good it is that we have these problems to work through. This is the situation the struggles we've been praying for.
But now it's late and I have extra tasks tomorrow.
G'night.

If you are interested, Tom Wolfe wrote an excellent essay regarding the fact that the news seemed better than fiction. He wrote it in 1989 and it is called, "Stalking the Billion-footed Beast." It can be found here: http://www.lukeford.net/Images/photos3/tomwolfe.pdf.
