3.14% of Sailors are Pi-rates

How many things can you find wrong with this one? How about a guy who will ride in a metal bowl, apparently behind a car? Looks like he's going pretty fast, too. But why would he wear elbow guards and not a helmet?
I wonder how this ended.

Left over from our road trip:
Out in the middle of nowhere - I think in New Mexico - we saw a billboard:
McDonalds
Right Next Exit
24 Hours
I told Steve I wouldn't drive 24 hours now matter which direction it was, especially for a McDonald's. He suggested that if we drove real slowly for that 24 hours it wouldn't take long to get back to the freeway.

Blogs with a haiku
They're kind of overrated
But I'm writing one.

Because of my focus on the Denver trip it didn't fully register with me that this is 4th of July weekend. Late yesterday I ran through the numbers in my head and quickly realized we would be pretty thin at Pathway this morning. That turned out to be the case. So we decided after the worship service what probably would have been decided earlier if I'd been on my toes - cancel Foundations.

The Preacher's Rule says that if bulletins are, for any reason, in short supply then attendance will exceed all expectations. The corollary says that attendance will be meager in direct proportion to the preacher's dis-ease with low numbers.
I want to fast-forward to next Sunday to get back to more "normal" attendance, understanding that in a church as new as Pathway there's really no such thing as normal. If things are not back to more typical levels by then I'll be a real head case!

The latest headline says that Steve McNair's death has been ruled a homicide. No kidding! Shot four times, two in the head, and they concluded it wasn't a suicide or an accident. I hope that didn't take them a lot of time.

On a related note (celebrity deaths) it's clear we won't be free of Michael Jackson coverage until we're at least two days on the other side of the funeral service. CNN has announced "around the clock coverage" of the memorial service on Tuesday. Let's hope nothing important happens or we'll be clueless until sometime Thursday.

I tried this with a pair of pumps I got at Shoe Carnival a couple of weeks ago and it works great:
Stretch Your Shoes
Your source for news you can use.

I didn't ride yesterday. No way that was going to happen. But after a week of junk food I MUST get back on the bike tomorrow. That will need to be very early since tonight's low is going to be 84 degrees. And it won't take long after the sun is up to move north of that toward the forecast high of 108. I have some outside chores and doing those after the ride will be tough. Desert living in the summertime.

I read last night that the President has signed the "Cash for Clunkers" legislation. The rules won't be worked out and announced until the 24th of this month, the program will take effect on August 1, and it will run until October 31 or until the federal funding runs out. I also read an analyst who says that contrary to his standard advice, now is the time to look at new, not used vehicles. So many people bought used cars over the last year that inventory is down 40%. Meanwhile, inventory of new cars is up 20% over normal levels. The law of supply and demand means that new cars & trucks are, at least for the short term, available at better prices than used vehicles of the same type.
So, should I even consider taking advantage of the program to unload Stealth Reliabity for the $4,500 the govt. will give me? I really do not want to get into a car payment. But the MacDonald Law of Timing says that one day past the end of the program she will have a catastrophic failure of something like a transmission which will set me back at least $3,000, making for a $7,500 swing. Or should I spend the $300 that it takes to put two new tires on the front to replace the bald ones currently there? (That puts it at $7,800.)
