Does OSHA know about this?I've given up on bike rides for the foreseeable future. If I leave before the temp is too high the sun is too low, and I fear morning commuters looking into the rising sun won't see me on the shoulder. By 6 a.m. (sunrise is at 5:30) it was already in the high 80's, my shortest ride takes an hour, and by then we're in the low 90's. My two-hour rides take more out of me than the benefit I derive.
So I've shifted to workouts at the gym in the late afternoon when the Sun City rec centers aren't as crowded. After time on the rowing machine, the exercise bike and the treadmill I go out to the pool to work on my swimming. I've been doing that for several weeks now, going through the "Total Immersion" program very slowly and deliberately.
I'm not there yet, but I'm getting close to real, honest-to-goodness swimming. I read the book to get the text version of the instructions, watch the CD to see it in action and then go to the pool to work on the drills. He's put together a system that moves in very small increments - small enough that one could question the point in some of the steps. I think the people who regularly see me doing some of these drills over and over must think I've lost my mind. But I am a klutz and what he describes as a "sinker." I figure taking the extra time to truly master each drill will pay off in the long run (or long swim).
Last Sunday we looked at the first 8 verses of 1 Cor. 15. "I delivered to you...what is of first importance....." This week we'll go through the rest of the chapter, which at 58 verses is the longest chapter in the Pauline epistles. The subject of the entire chapter is the resurrection, and in typical Pauline fashion he gives some pretty detailed and precise teaching on the subject. It would be easy to spend weeks working through what Paul teaches them about the future resurrection. But I don't think I want this to be a didactic sermon. The whole thing lands in vs. 58; that's where the action is. So on a Wednesday evening the plan is to work quickly through the three major sections and then bring it on home with v. 58.
Times like this I wish that Pathway was a) larger and b) less White. Let's face it, nobody responds to the truth of the resurrection like the Black church. Look at their music!
Who'll give a witness?
I'm not particularly street savvy but I think I've got the basics down, which is why I'm totally confused by this story. Michael Jackson's dermatologist is pretty sure he's not the father of MJ's children.
I need some help understanding this.
We got a letter from Al Gore today. Subject line: "re. Sir Al Fartsalot of Welk Manor"
Apparently they have satellites that can identify locations of excessive methane emissions and our address came up. But this letter was generated a month ago when we could still open the windows at night. Now that we're in the full heat of summer everything is closed up with the AC running 24/7.
The good news is that the former Senator Al will be happy with the reduced emissions. That bad news is that the dog Al is coming dangerously close to asphyxiating his owners.
"Everyone guessed wrong."
That was VP Joe Biden's comment recently when asked about unemployment rates at 9.5% when the stimulus package was supposed to keep them at the 8% they were six months ago.
I was hoping that the administration was doing better than guessing about this one.

- How could he be the father of Jackson's kids? As weird as he was, Jackson could not get pregnant. So the dermatologist might be the father of Debbie Rowe's kids but not Mr. Jackson's.
- You may be thinking, "No, it's that he might be the father of the kids Jackson adopted. That's the sense in which they are MJ's kids." Unless I'm wrong, adopting children requires either the termination of parental rights OR that both biological parents sign off on the adoption. The courts wouldn't allow MJ to adopt any man's children without that man's consent. As the biological father he would have prior standing.
- How could he be "pretty sure"? Unless it's a case of a sperm bank and an anonymous donor he should know, shouldn't he?
