Drink apple juice. O.J. will kill you.
Today's big story here is the rain. We had a line of showers blow through an hour ago and those rain drops led the local news coverage. We got a few tenths of an inch and we may get even more overnight. Exciting!
(Life in the desert.)
Do you want to know how the morning went at Pathway? So do I. This was one of those Sundays when I have no clue if I communicated God's Word effectively or just filled the air with sound waves. The Holy Spirit is the one whose work is essential if Scripture is going to fulfill its divine function in the hearts and lives of God's people. But the preacher's job is to present the Word in a way which makes the Spirit's work something less than miraculous. I can say I learned in my preparation for this message (and the lesson in the second hour), so I guess at least one person got something out of it.
The Arizona Cardinals lost their football game today against the Tennessee Titans on the last play of the game with four seconds left on the clock. But if a loss ever counted as a win, this was the time. Starting QB Kurt Warner didn't play because of lingering concussion symptoms, a decision made right before game time. So Matt Leinart stepped in at QB. Leinart was drafted #1 by the Cards out of Stanford (10th pick overall) in 2006, but has been a bust by all accounts. He was supposed to be the Cards QB last year but lost the position during training camp because old man Warner showed better stuff, a good decision if a trip to the Super Bowl means anything. So when we heard Matt would be starting today we all figured the Cards would be on the wrong end of a blow-out. It wasn't a blow-out and Leinart did a respectable job, especially in the second half. He seemed to get into a rhythm, loosen up and make some good throws. There just might be hope for him (and the Cards) yet.
I haven't done any workouts since the tri last Thursday. My calf feels fine so the plan is to go for a run tomorrow morning and then back to the pool in the afternoon. It's not too early to begin working on next year's tri.
Actually, I want to get my running mileage up and my times down so I can find some 5k and 10k races to do. Everywhere else they've taken a break until next spring, but here we're just getting into the event season.
I'll use my bike and the pool for the cross training benefit and to improve my swimming technique.
The federal budget deficit for October was $176.4 billion, the largest deficit ever for the month of October and over three times what it was in October of '08. We've now run a deficit for 13 consecutive months. October is the first month of the govt.'s fiscal year, so we're off to a great start! No reason we can't easily eclipse the fiscal '09 deficit of $1.42 trillion.
I don't have any more, especially on a Sunday night. But I should be full of wit and wisdom tomorrow night, so stay tuned.
NOTE: the word "that" does not occur anywhere in the above post.
Bring it or leave it.

Matt Leinart went to USC.
I really enjoyed yesterday's sermon. Was very interesting to gain better understanding of what kind of guy Joseph was. I've been thinking a lot about truth and grace - so that makes at least 2 people who got something out of it!
