Zombies hate fast food.

Did you hear that Chelsea Clinton is engaged? Her fiance', Marc Mezvinsky, is the son of a former Congressman from Iowa and Congresswoman from Pennsylvania. In addition to having represented Iowa, Ed Mezvinsky worked in the financial industry, and in 2002 pleaded guilty to defrauding investors of $10 million.
I don't make 'em up, I just report 'em.

Pam leaves this Saturday for 10 days in Michigan to visit her mother and our peeps. Today she pulled the Arby's coupons from the mailer and handed them to me.
What a wonderful wife!

If I understand correctly the infection that caused the abscess should be under control by now, after three days of antibiotics (I take them for a full week). But something's still going on in there because I'm getting slammed with pain several times during the day. I've got several of the Rx pain pills left but I hesitate to take them.
All of this made me think today about people who have no access to dental care. What do they do in a situation like this? How do people in undeveloped countries deal with an abscessed tooth? I've been to places (villages in eastern Tanzania) where they didn't even have pliers. What about people here without dental insurance?
It makes me hurt just to think about it.

The movie "Blind Side" got generally poor reviews from the critics. The movie critic for WORLD Magazine went to the press screening before its release and talked with a critic for a major print publication (he didn't specify) who didn't like the flick for all the expected reasons: it was too smarmy, it was racist, it was preachy.... The WORLD critic countered that it was a true story, so how could you call it too anything?
The public apparently disagrees with the mainstream media critics because "Blind Side" has grossed more money in its second week than in the first, a rare thing for movies these days. Ticket sales, in this case, are being driven by word of mouth, the recommendation of people who have seen it.
Pathway is going to see it this Saturday. We'll meet at the theater for an afternoon showing and then go across the street to Baja Fresh for dinner afterward. If you're interested you are welcome to join us!

I was back at Matt & Marcie's new house today to re-install a kitchen cabinet door I had taken with me last Saturday so a hinge could be relocated. It needs to swing open to the left instead of the right, which meant using a Forstner bit in the drill press at the wood shop to create a new hole for the European-style hinge. Over the weekend they discovered the drain in the second bath's tub didn't work so I also ran to Lowe's to get a replacement lever mechanism (turns out the old one had broken). While I was gone they delivered the new washer and dryer but it seems the faucets for the washer leak. I'm going back tomorrow to fix those.
I think it might be easier if they just set up a spare room for me. I'll cut 'em a discount if I get to use the pool.

I have Tom Brady as my fantasy QB. I'm 28 points down going into tonight's game.
This is depressing.

The big game is the Florida/Bama game Saturday. But I think I'll be at the movie when it's on.
Maybe we need to get a TiVo before then, huh?

My friend Lisa McMinn (she wrote "Raising Strong Daughters") wrote a review of that movie here:

You might find it interesting.

And re: your tooth pain and question about what do those without dental care do—watch "Castaway" with Tom Hanks. You will no doubt identify.

Jason has seen hours of video of Carl Moyer and Otto Deming pulling teeth in those African villages.

My mom took the boys to see the blind side. They both really liked it for the story, but they also had LOTS to say about the language in the movie. I'll admit that they are pretty sheltered, and it showed in their response to some of the things they heard in that 2 hours. Enjoy your time with your church friends, I can't wait to hear what you think of the movie.

We saw Blind Side. Good flick. It avoided addressing some of the serious social issues and some of the challenges the parties faced but the movie was accurate in what it told. Sure, some folks wished it had addressed social injustice or complain that it was smarmy - well - the screenwriter's intent was to tell the story, not cover a social agenda.
