Gotta like the #2 guy. Helmets are for sissies.
Spent most of the morning in the study prepping for Sunday. Some interesting exegetical issues with this section of 1 Tim. 3. But I used to tell my students, "They want the meal, not the recipe." (That's not original with me, but I don't remember with whom it originated.) So this message requires acknowledging those issues without turning it into a lesson on Greek vocab.
We have two words, woman and wife. Greek has only one word for both concepts. Determining which of those meanings was the author's intent in a given passage is usually straightforward, defined by the context. Sometimes it ain't so easy.
I got a call from a restaurant early this afternoon. One of the realtors I do work for eats there almost daily and gave them my name and number. The health inspector paid them a visit and they have a few problems they need to fix. Two leaky faucets and a leaking hose bib, and a couple of cabinets that need to be sealed against cockroaches. The lockset on the back door also broke (that didn't come up on the inspection). I did the lockset this afternoon and will go back tomorrow afternoon to fix the faucets. The cabinets next week.
The broken lockset was manufactured by Quickset. As long as you stay with the same brand they can re-key the new lockset so all of the old keys will work. I ran to Lowe's to pick one up but came back with a new Quickset product. They've come out with what they call "Smart Key" locks. Install the lockset, put the new key in and turn it 90 degrees, put this special "key" into a tiny hole alongside the new key, remove that new key and insert the old one, turn it back 90 degrees and voila' - the lock is re-keyed so all the old keys will work. Trick!
I did take a break this morning to watch Tiger's ... what shall we call it? ... public statement. Interesting.
I appreciated what he said, especially:
- His vigorous defense of Elin at the suggestion she had been physically violent toward him.
- His acknowledgment that his conduct on the golf course has been inappropriate. The last year or two his club slamming and loud profanities would have gotten anybody else DQ'd.
- His comment that working so hard and experiencing so much success gave him the sense that he was above the rules that governed everyone else's behavior. That statement showed, IMHO, valuable insight into his own dynamics.
Note: the Golf Writers Assoc. of America boycotted the event in protest because they were limited to three reporters and could ask no questions. They said it was not a news conference but another example of Tiger calling the shots.
Here's something interesting. Don't know that this translates into a marketable skill, but it's cool.
