How do you get an English major off your porch? A: Pay him for the pizza.

Not much time for a post tonight, so you just get the basics.

My mother-in-law is in the hospital. She had a bad day yesterday and this morning Pam's brother took her to the hospital as a precaution. They decided to admit her for observation overnight. She should come home tomorrow; doesn't look like anything serious but caution is always the right choice at that age.

I woke up sharply and instantly at 3 a.m. I figured that was because of the three-hour time zone change and then figured out it should have gone the other way. It wasn't 6 a.m. at home, it was midnight. That realization didn't help me get back to sleep so I got up and worked on stuff for Pathway this Sunday. Boy am I pooped now!

Had dinner tonight with some guys I haven't seen in years, including a former student I haven't seen since he graduated, and Pastor John Shyne who is a remarkable guy in the truest sense of that word. John grew up in inner city Muskegon, pastored a Black church there, and then guided that congregation and a white church from the suburbs in a true church merger. He really should write a book. John and I team-taught a class in inner city Grand Rapids for a couple of years. A great experience!

I had b'fast with Paul and Jim. We talked shop, technology and media.

In between b'fast and dinner I had a warm-the-cockles-of-my-heart visit with my dear Jennifer. Never enough time.

But just before going to the college for the dinner I stopped by our old home on Perry. I delivered copies of two photos we have of the house and the Smallegan family that date back to the early 30's. I am SO glad I went over there. The wife/mom was home and we had a great visit. I was able to tell her some things about the house they didn't know - things that should help them when the power goes out, the sewer backs up, etc. And about the two now-buried cisterns. They are doing a wonderful job getting it back to the shape it was in when we left it. They truly appreciate the character, beauty and history of the home.

OK, that's all I have time and energy for. This may be FULL of typos. I've written it quickly and without much thought. Rambling. But I needed to say that I had a wonderful day.

Oh, and one more thing. Without the whole back story I must say that I have thought today about how I've been VERY blessed with the congregations I pastored. That blessing continues with the wonderful people at Pathway. They have no clue how thankful I am for each of them and their collective spirit.
