Courtesy of Busted TeesRan on fumes this morning, but God is gracious. I think he was OK with it.
We began a short sermon series on the words for salvation in the NT. This week it was propitiation (atonement in the NIV). I think the power of those various words is too often passed over in the dumbing down typical in the contemporary church. There's no "this will change your life this week" takeaway, just a deeper humility before the Author of our salvation. The concepts included in the word propitiation (hilasterion) aren't simple, but do - or should - fill us with awe and reverence.
In Foundations we're doing a study of Gen. 1-11 and this morning we looked at the old earth views for interpreting the creation account. (Last week we covered the young earth interpretive views.)
Last year they sprayed a layer of black stuff (tar) on all the streets in our neighborhood because, they said, it would extend the life of the asphalt another 3-5 years. Which makes me wonder why tomorrow they're going to grind up the top inch of pavement and put down...you guessed it...new asphalt.
Do you know anyone who says "ash-phalt"? I think it's a regional thing.
Today is Mother's Day. I left a card for my mom before I left Seattle - but only because my wife purchased it and put it in my luggage. Her mistake was not buying one for herself and putting it in my luggage.
Yeah, I'm a loser.
I'm also still feeling like a lump of cold mud. It's Sunday evening and I'm still feeling the effects of last week's work. I'm getting old.
A better effort tomorrow...promise.

Maybe your daughters-in-law purchased cards and stuffed them in your sons' Bibles for Pam.
