Forgive a brief post this morning. The day starts soon and goes long...sorta like yesterday.
We started with a little more packing but things kicked into high gear when the 20-yard dumpster was delivered about 9:00. The rest of the day was spent filling it with stuff from the garage, from the shed down in the lower yard and from around the outside of the house. Anything that wouldn't sell in an estate sale got thrown over the top and into the dumpster. It has a little room left in it, but not much. By the time the mattresses and box springs go in the thing will be full.
During that process we did some sorting for the estate sale that will happen in a couple of weeks. It will be interesting to see what sells and what doesn't. We'll probably need another, hopefully smaller dumpster to get rid of the latter.
Scott and I will drive up to Everett to get the truck this morning. I reserved a 24' with a lift gate, a concession to old age and tired legs. Then the real fun begins.
Actually, I have no idea how we're going to get this done.
Their unit is on the fourth floor, about 50 yards down a hallway with several turns. But the real problem is at the bottom. The truck won't fit in the parking garage, which has a drop-down electric gate requiring a garage door opener-type control to open. So we have to open that gate and get furniture from the truck into the parking garage before the gate comes down. Then carry the furniture over to an elevator only big enough to hold four old people and their walkers. Scott and I took a few boxes over last night in his car and discovered that this crazy elevator doesn't have that feature that makes the door kick back open if something is in its path. (Why hasn't some old lady been crushed by that thing??)
For reasons known only to God and my mother we're moving a large upright freezer. I'm not sure it will fit in the elevator. Or the big couch. Which means four flights of stairs.
I tried to talk my folks into selling ALL their furniture and buying a lovely set of those nice plastic patio chairs, maybe a nylon web-style chaise lounge and a card table. No go.
My body aches from yesterday's hustling. The dumpster work needed to be largely completed so today's focus could be the actual move. I don't want to think about what tomorrow morning is going to feel like.
The Grandfather Clock upstairs is chiming 6 a.m. even as I type this. (Yes, it has to get moved, too.) It's time to get a shower, grab some b'fast and get rolling.
This is going to be FUN!!!
Oh, BTW, if you're looking for a great deal on a monster roto-tiller, I posted this yesterday:
Troybilt
He won't be needing this anymore!
