Why would I need an earwig? I already have hair growing out of my ears.

I agree with Pam. Parenting is an activity for young adults.

I had planned on 25-30 miles this morning but only managed 15. Didn't get out the door until almost 9:00 and by then we were well into obscene temps and crazy monsoon humidity. I could see lightning in the distance and the wind was stiff, but I hammered the whole distance and felt good about the effort.

Today we discovered that if you have a wet towel and decide to drape it over the agitator in the wash machine to dry you should not put the lid down. It won't dry, but it will take on the odor of a thousand wet, stinky socks.
We discovered that after an extended time searching for decaying food or a dead animal somewhere in the laundry room which, alas, also serves as the office.

Al ate his two cups of food tonight. That wouldn't be news except it's the first food he's eaten in over 48 hours.

Alberto Contador dissed the sport of cycling this morning. Andy Schleck will have his revenge and it will be sweet.

And I think it's interesting that guys like Jordan and Barkley are publicly criticizing LeBron for his move. I think it was Barkley who said, if you're a two-time league MVP you don't go to them, they come to you.

At Pathway we're doing a series on the disciplines of the Christian life. So far we've done two weeks each on prayer and Bible reading. In the second message of each pair I'm trying to give very practical suggestions for putting into action what we're learning. As part of the just concluded messages on the Bible we've started posting a Scripture reading assignment on our church blog page.

I have a 6 a.m. flight tomorrow, which means leaving the house a little before 4 a.m. I won't have access to the internet at my mother-in-laws house, where I'll be staying while I'm in Grand Rapids. But the plan is to do b'fast at Panera in the mornings, so I hope to post then.

Now I gotta go pack. And get some sleep. This being a grandad stuff is exhausting!

I have to agree with you that parenting is for the younger folks! We have had our grandkids here since Sunday afternoon, ages 6, 13, 13, 14. We elected NOT to take the 3 yr old & 9 month old! Dealing with them & Ken being sick has left me exhausted. And starting tomorrow I am the assistant teacher for the preschool class @ convention for the week!!

A side note on feeling dehydrated after your long bike rides. Your symptoms sounded like the start of Ken's issues w/potassium. They also found his magnesium & phosphates were low. Have you experimented w/Gatorade or a sports drink during the long rides to replenish what you sweat out? Just a thought.

See you this week!
