Having to make two trips is my own fault. I should have taken my drill when I left the house. A drill shouldn't be necessary when replacing a worn out ceiling fan with a new one, but the last guy saw fit to anchor that old fan with screws driven into one of the beams of an open beam ceiling. And because he couldn't get the slot screws to go all the way in with his screwdriver he drove them the rest of the way with his hammer (a tactic that pretty much bungled up the screw's slot).
The job is done, the new fan spins quietly (the bearings on the old one were failing fast) and everybody's happy, so we'll call it all good.
After our first week at Litchfield Park Elementary School last Sunday we identified a couple of small changes we needed to make. So I talked to Wendy yesterday about getting additional restrooms unlocked and another room for our growing Sunday School Department. Today I got an email from her saying it was all approved and would be effective this Sunday.
I hardly know what to do with that kind of service!
I play Free Cell on my laptop and keep score for 100 games at a time. Just finished a cycle with 97 wins. Beat that!
I told the elders at our meeting Sunday night that vacation was profitable on many levels. One of them was spending time with dear friends who were in the church I served from '76 to '83 and hearing them talk about what they remember of my ministry. Especially striking was that Bob & Marla cited some of the same things Bruce and Debby did, despite living 150 miles apart and not talking to each other for several years. They quoted the same lesson axioms, word for word. Both Bob & Bruce said they'd used those axioms in positions as managers at work (i.e. they were transferable principles). And "Red Stamps, Green Stamps" stuck, too.
So now I'm rethinking my sermon and lesson calendar for the fall.
As each Michigan winter neared its end we'd dream of the day temps would rise above freezing.
They say we may have a high down in the double digit range by the weekend.
Hallelujah!
