CAPS LOCK - cruise control for the perpetually angry

High winds, lots of rain and considerable storm damage...all on the southeast side of the valley. We didn't get a drop of rain here on the NW side. It was hot and humid, but no rain.

I skipped my morning ride because of the heat & humidity, and it was windy, too. I worked on Sunday stuff instead. But I'm re-thinking my weekly ride schedule. I have been doing a medium-long ride on Wednesdays, taking Friday off and then doing my long ride on Saturdays. (The days in between are 15-30 mile rides.) This week Saturday's distance means 60+ miles. The problem comes Sunday when I'm feeling the effects of the week's longest ride the same time I want to have good energy for my preaching & teaching responsibilities. So I'm going to try doing the Saturday distance tomorrow, given today's "rest" day. I may or may not ride Friday, but Saturday will be Wednesday's distance.
Are you confused yet? Because I think I am.

Pam had an appointment in Gilbert this afternoon, so I went along and we went from there to IKEA in Tempe. (close by) We now have all the furniture for the redecorating. I've got the valance and window sill made and installed, the cellular shade and drapes up, and of course the new floor and trim down. All that remains are the details, or as they say in the fashion business, the accessories. That includes an area rug, plants, a lamp or two, some art and an oversize wall clock. We've already got most of it picked out, so it's just getting it as the budget allows. It's coming together, and we both like what's emerging. That's the fun part - having a vision, a concept, and having it turn out like you imagined it. So far so good.

Is the number one goal readability? Is arriving at a translation that communicates clearly the ultimate objective? Or are there times when obscurity is the greater good? What if the original Greek or Hebrew is ambiguous? 'cause that happens. It could be translated more than one way, or a word's meanings is lost to us. Is the best thing to translate the ambiguity of the original or to take our best estimate of the author's meaning and translate that clearly?
Literal, or dynamic equivalent?

While we're asking questions, is it ever the best thing to NOT vote in a particular election? What if the options are both bad - one because of platform and the other because of general and demonstrated incompetence. Must we, should we choose between the lesser of options or is it the greater good, the more righteous option to refuse to participate? I gotta figure that one out before Nov. 3.
