"Don't accept rides from strange men, and remember that all men are strange." - Robin Morgan
Whew! Busy day. But I enjoy days like this because there's lots to think about. My brain gets lots of work.
It started at Paradise Bakery for b'fast where Josh W. and I quizzed his intern again in preparation for his oral exams next April. Poor kid; we show him no mercy.
I had planned to come home and go for my Tuesday ride (short, speed) but dark skies and weather warnings scared me off. Tonight things are a mess all over the city with trees and power lines down, cars stranded on flooded streets and a million dollar home destroyed by a lightning strike & fire. The I-17 freeway, the major N/S freeway in Phoenix, is totally locked up by power lines laying across all lanes, lines that came down just as rush hour began.
So I spent most of the morning in our new living room reading in my commentaries for Sunday's sermon. E.F. Harrison is usually pretty good, so I was surprised at some of what he wrote on Jonah 4. But I enjoy this part of the process - the study portion.
Had lunch with one of my daughters. That's ALWAYS a treat. Aubri and I talked about kids' ministries at Pathway (she's been working very hard to keep them going strong since Day One) and where we need to go from here. As unbelievable as it seems, our kids dept. continues to GROW, almost exclusively in the under-five age group. So it's time for us to step it up to the next level.
During our conversation we remembered what we did with kids last Christmas. We had Aaron and Megan read the Christmas story. They were the only real readers in the church at the time. Now, even though Megan is still the oldest, we have a whole group of strong readers. Yep, a whole group of very good looking and very bright young 'uns!
On the way home from lunch....
I will never again spend $$$$ to have anything framed. Allow me to let you in on a little secret.
Go to Hobby Lobby with whatever you want framed (in our case the first of the two posters). Pick out a frame from their shelves, either an "open back" (frame only) or, if you're cheap like me, a frame complete with glass and back. Then choose a mat from their very large selection of stock mats. Take them and your artwork up to the custom framing counter and they'll put it all together. He cut the mat (bevel cut), trimmed it to size, put it all together in the frame and even put paper and the hanging wire on the back. All of this just for the price of the frame and mat. No charge for his work. And he was a nice guy.
If you're not in a hurry their frames on half off about every other week.
He told me he's framed some really interesting stuff, including a violin for a family whose father/grandfather had just died. He'd played that violin since he was six and they wanted to display it as a reminder of who he was.
This afternoon I downloaded free preview curriculum from a couple of publisher's sites. Did some more reading. Found some more music that might work for Pathway, too. And pretty much constant eating. Tomorrow is 45 miles, give or take, and a guy has to be fueled up, right?
Could be Sun City:
"Be careful pulling out"
Today's really good news? Sun Chips is dropping those horrible biodegradable bags that made enough noise to drown out a construction site. Too many people complained.
Interesting stuff in today's news but I'm too tired to ramble on about it.
G'night.

I was about 15 cars back from the downed power lines on I-17 last night - just far enough to bail off the freeway. I have a car covered in mini-dimple dents from the hail storm that preceded the power lines coming down. I've never seen white out conditions caused by hail - it was crazy!
Just watched the "Be Careful Pulling Out" video. Holy. Cow. You find the best stuff!
