Marriage is like a poker hand. You start with 2 hearts and a diamond and draw to a club and a spade.

This morning I downloaded "Don't Vote" by P.J. O'Rourke onto my new Kindle. I've read the intro and the first three chapters and give the Kindle a two thumbs up. I didn't know how I'd like reading off of a screen vs. holding a book in my hand, but it works just fine. I am having some trouble learning the controls, though. I need to read through the PDF manual I downloaded onto my Mac to figure some things out. It can do a ton more than just books, and while I may never use most of its capabilities I want to at least know how.

The book ain't what I'd call an easy read, but it's thought provoking. O'Rourke is a little like Will Rogers, only brainier. He's raising issues I've never thought about, which is good for me. He describes himself as a political conservative and satirist, is a member of the Cato Institute and a contributor to The Weekly Standard. He's also one of the panelists on "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me." So think slightly snarky conservative brainiac with a clever wit and a pretty impressive grasp of history & politics.
Yeah, I know. Not what most would consider recreational reading, but so far I'm enjoying it.

The weird thing about the Kindle? You don't turn it off. It doesn't use any juice once it goes into sleep mode and doesn't get screen burn-in. Bizarre.

It's the dinner hour and I'm beginning to feel better. Do you ever know you're too tired both physically and emotionally... just weary? That's the way I feel some Mondays and today was one of those. I know the smart thing is to stay away from sharp objects, power tools and decisions of any greater import than which kind of chips to have with my sandwich.
Which is why one of the first things I did this morning was probably a poor choice.

At the surprise party Saturday night Steve gave me a CD with a video that Jeff Norder made for me. It's a series of greetings from folks at Celebration, back in Grand Rapids. It made me feel homesick and guilty. I have NO doubt that God's will was done with our move to Phoenix, and that it was best for both Celebration and Pathway. But after watching the video I felt like a father who walked out on his kids. And speaking of kids, seeing how much the Celebration kids have grown since I saw them last...wow!

The people are the best part. Leaving is the worst part. In the resurrection we'll have all of the former and none of the latter.

Going back and forth between the football game and the World Series. Even Kurt Warner isn't watching Dancing with the Stars.

Speaking of Warner, the AZ Cardinals went from a Hall of Fame QB to a choice between somebody else's cast-off and an un-drafted rookie. So it comes as no surprise that we're BAD.

One more day, folks. Just one more day.

Your 10-26-10 Prognositication: Ranger in Six. Hmm, how about Giants in 5? Does your record in fantasy league football and MLB World Series imply we should ask you for investment advice and do the opposite?

Yeah, that wouldn't be a bad tactic. Although I did finally win a fantasy game this week. Hey, maybe this is the beginning of a streak!
