"Imitation is the sincerest form of television." - Fred Allen

I don't know which is more amusing - four guys holding up really lame fish for the photo or a fifth guy who didn't catch anything and can't even look at the camera.

Have you seen the commercial for the Taylormade driver coming out in February?
“Can you guess which thing is not like the other...?”
I’ve seen it at least six times and it still sucks me in every time it’s on.
“Best use of a children’s song in a commercial” award.

Speaking of, really...who cares about the endless string of award shows? Tonight it’s the Golden Globes. I can’t even tell you what those are for. But this one I might tune in for - at least part of it. I heard a reporter say the pre-award party of all the attendees includes a hosted bar, which means at least even odds that somebody standing behind a microphone will be saying-something-really-stupid drunk. I get a perverse enjoyment out of watching rich, self-absorbed people make fools of themselves.

Which is why, entering the fourth quarter, I can’t decide who I want to win the Patriots/Jets game. More accurately, who do I want to lose? A: both teams. On one side we have the smug, arrogant Pats and on the other a group of loud-mouthed, crude Jets.
Where are the Sharks when you need them?

The Seahawks lost to the Bears, as expected. And it’s probably a good thing, because we have some very avid Packers fans at Pathway. Opening next week’s service by invoking God’s blessing on the Hawks as they clobber Green Bay might have been a barrier to their worship.

Forecasted high of 79 degrees tomorrow. You wish you were here; I know you do.

This is car auction week, with about half a dozen separate auctions running all week in the greater Phoenix area. The biggest is Barrett-Jackson, which is televised live on SpeedTV. My brothers came down for it three years ago and talked about coming again this year but can’t make it. Last year Bob & Marla came, and talked about coming this year but they can’t, either. I may go by myself Thursday, and/or the Russo-Steele auction on Friday. Amazing cars you can’t see anywhere else outside of a museum, but here there are hundreds of them. And no ropes keeping you several feet away. Everything from exotic Italian supercars to custom hot rods to impeccably restored classics. And historically significant vehicles. The ambulance that took Sen. Kennedy to the hospital is up for auction.

If I go I’ll leave the checkbook home. Then again, they might have a ’59 Olds 88 2-door hardtop, and I’d just HAVE to buy that!

It’ Sunday night. Anything else I’d write would just be drivel.

(I heart that!)
