"Your manuscript is both good and original, but the part that is good is not original and the part that is original is not good." - Samuel Johnson

Ah, to be patient.

I got a ton of stuff done today. I'm feeling it tonight.
The male voice-over on the supplement commercial asks, "Do you not feel like you did at 45?"
Dude, I don't feel like I did at 55. But guess what: I'm not supposed to.

I replaced that defective garbage disposal. We both liked the hummmm of the new unit. Much better.
While I was there I also replaced the lockset & deadbolt on the front door. Have you ever heard of Dexter door hardware? I haven't either. But that bit of cheapo junk has been replaced with a Kwickset unit. They've come up with a new system called "Inteli-Lock" that allows you to change the key without taking the unit out of the door. It's ideal for a rental unit where you want to change the locks for the new tenants but don't want to buy all new hardware. Pay an extra $10 up front for that feature and then just a few dollars each time you change the keying - a job you can do yourself.

My current issue of TIME Magazine came today. I don't think I'll be reading much of it. The cover story is about Rob Bell's book, "Love Wins," that argues there's no eternal state of judgment for the unsaved. This isn't the first time someone has argued for UR (Universal Reconciliation) and it's not the last. For now he's getting (too much) press; it was even a topic on The Chris Matthews Show tonight. (You know you've scored a publishing coup when your book about theology gets discussed by political hacks.) A year from now all but a small minority will have gone back to the clear teaching of Scripture. In the meantime I wonder what affect this latest go-round with UR will have on the urgency of missions.

The other major article is about the changing lifestyle of America's seniors. I only paged through that section and read headings & captions. Too much about Sun City, AZ. I live here and know it first hand to be a pretty boring place. Can't imagine what TIME found to fill several pages with. People over 55 aren't homogenous anymore than people under 30 are.

Preaching without a net tomorrow.
I'm afraid to walk Jack in the morning. I don't have time for another re-write.

Why is it so controversial to say Medicare and Medicaid need an overhaul?

The Pat Tillman run was held here today. He's the guy who passed on a $3.6 million contract to stay in the NFL so he could join the military and fight in Afghanistan, and was then killed in a friendly fire incident the govt. tried to cover up. He was a Phoenix native and played at ASU, and then for the AZ Cardinals. They have a series of runs of various distances that draw over 30,000 participants. A lot of people wear jerseys or shirts with 42 on them because that was his number with the Cards.

Yesterday all the players in MLB games wore jerseys with the number 42 on them to honor Jacki Robinson, who broke the color barrier in major league baseball.

Just an interesting coincidence, that's all.

OK, maybe I need to go to bed.
