When the sun came up we had a water lily bud, our first. I felt like a proud new papa. An hour later it was fully open. They only last a day but once all the lilies are mature we'll have multiple blooms all the time.The roses are almost done. Maybe a few more weeks until it's too hot for them. But the iris in back should provide plenty of color by then.

You Can Run But You Cannot Fly
Sammy Wanjiru, the Kenyan marathon runner who took Gold in the last Olympics jumped to his death last Sunday. According to reports, his wife came found him in bed with another woman. Facts are murky, but the police report says she locked him in the bedroom and left their compound. Authorities think he may have been trying to prevent her from leaving when he jumped off the bedroom's balcony and fell to his death.

Vin Mazzaro, a relief pitcher for the KC Royals, gave up 14 earned runs in just 2 1/3 innings Monday night, the worst pitching performance since 1919. Interviewed after the game Mazzaro said, "Yeah, some of the plays didn't go my way."

Dominique Strauss-Kahn, head of the International Monetary Fund and French presidential candidate went from a $3,000 per night suite at the Sofitel Hotel in NY to an 11'x13' cell at Riker's Island after a judge declared him a flight risk when he was arraigned for sexually assaulting a hotel employee. After the alleged assault she went to authorities and he left the hotel. The cops couldn't find him until he called the hotel to say he'd left his phone behind. The cops, pretending to be hotel security, said they'd found the phone and asked where they should take it to return it. "I'm at the airport, terminal...."

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has sued Starbucks in Texas for firing a dwarf barista who asked for a stool so she could better reach the machines. Starbucks said the stool posed a safety threat to fellow employees but the EEOC says the firing violates the Americans with Disabilities Act. We don't expect them to reach a settlement, either.
It Tastes Just Like Chicken
Police in Moscow arrested Nickolai Shadrin on charges of cannibalism after clues led them to his apartment where they found a stew in his fridge made from a human liver. The rest of the victim's body was found, dismembered, in various locations around the city.
