This is from my older brother. I love it!
Rep. Weiner is married to Huma Abedin who works for Sect. of State Hillary Clinton. This morning I read that she was born in Kalamazoo, the daughter of an Iranian scholar of Indian descent and a Pakistani mother who teaches sociology in Saudi Arabia where Huma was raised. She speaks Arabic and is a practicing Muslim.
Sharks and Jets, two generations. Amazing.
I woke up hungry and told Pam before she left for work that my primary goal for the day was to eat - anything and everything my mind settled on.
She told me there's a Tupperware container on the bottom shelf in the fridge with fruit left over from Sunday's baby shower.
My wife does not understand.
Born and raised in Seattle you'd think I'd be pulling for the Canucks to win game 7 of the Stanley Cup tonight. They are just up the road. But it's BOSTON, baby! Not because it's USA vs. Canada (again) but because Vancouver has played some dirty hockey and needs their comeuppance (re. comeuppance see: Miami Heat).
Pam asked me what a Canuck is. I told her that growing up in Seattle it was a somewhat derogatory term for a Canadian, which begs the question, why would they choose that name for their team? So I looked it up online and learned that it can be a neutral or derogatory term depending on user and context. The Wikipedia article gives some examples of negative comments made about Canada, mostly by conservative politicians and pundits critical of Canada's more liberal climate. One said, "Canada is like Honduras, only not as interesting." Another: "Canada is like arthritis. You don't think about it unless it acts up."
I was thinking this morning about the relationship between weight and fitness. Cogitating. I reasoned that they're not the same but are related. For reasons I don't understand (and Pam hates) my weight doesn't change much more than 5 lbs. either way regardless of how much I eat or how active I am. It shifts but doesn't change all that much. So my weight, which is easy to measure, doesn't indicate my level of fitness.
So what is fitness? Hmmm.
Cardiovascular fitness I understand, and it's measurable, quantifiable. But what about muscle strength, flexibility, endurance, stuff like that?
I cycle because it's low impact (arthritis) and I enjoy it. It doesn't give me the aerobic workout that running did (pre-arthritis), so assuming equal time spent on both, am I less fit cycling than I was running? Cycling involves more upper body than a non-rider would think whereas running involves practically none. How does that factor in?
All of this makes very little difference in the grand scheme of things. But this morning, as I tried to get motivated for a bike ride, I cogitated that as I get older a) I have to work harder to achieve "fitness," b) it seems harder to maintain fitness, c) fitness gained seems to be lost faster, d) the motivation part is getting harder, too.
I went for the bike ride because I wanted to eat this afternoon and have some rationale for talking down my conscience. But it shouldn't be this complicated, should it?
Given the recent news stories I'm wondering about the sexual orientation of a male who poses as a lesbian. He's attracted to...?
Three Dem. Senators are calling for tougher firearms laws after releasing a report saying that 70% of the guns seized from Mexico drug operations were manufactured in the U.S.
Huh?
If 70% of the drug runners' cars were made in the U.S. would we clamp down on the auto industry?
Or if 70% of their neckties...
Hey guys, we're next door and we have some of the largest firearms manufacturers in the world. OK, it could be that China makes more guns. I don't think so, but even if they did, would you buy a Chinese gun?

A good opportunity to roll the first part of your blog to the last part. The Canadians have had gun laws tougher than most for 15? years now and they have only achieved wasting money. Switzerland on the other hand has a mandatory military service for men and then they are mandated to keep their military rifle in their home as part of the "militia" after their active service. Lets compare crime rates with Switzerland.
