I have the solution to the energy crisis. Forget solar, wind, tidal and lima bean power. Find a way to harness the energy in a room with 130 teenagers! Incredible.
At the beginning of every chapel time they worship by singing as Jonathan and his ad hoc band lead. Great music and - did I mention - ENERGY!! (some of these kids got moves!)
But it isn't confined to the chapel. They even eat with energy. "Dining" hall starts with din for a reason.
But they're good kids. I'm pleasantly surprised by their politeness, pleasantness and responsiveness. I'll have more pictures for my next post, including what my Sr. Hi group looks like in chapel (that's both Jr. and Sr. in the pic above. They split up after singing.). I'm pleased with how our first two sessions have gone. I think we've had fun and we've laid the groundwork for some pretty serious thinking about issues associated with Imago Dei. We'll start that tonight by discussion presuppositional apologetics (cf. Cornelius VanTil), capital punishment and vegetarianism. What do those things have in common? They all involve applying a biblical truth (Imago Dei) to real life issues.
These are sharp kids! I was a total doofus at this age, but these kids are very capable of serious critical thinking on important issues. I want them to learn how to do that from a biblical world view. Tonight we jump into the deep end.
I am the oldest person on this campground. That's a downer!
My voice is already sore. Hard not to push the vocal chords in a chapel with bad acoustics and 80 kids plus their counselors. Kevin can't find the wireless mic, but if he does that will help. Otherwise I'll have problems by the end of the week.
It's great to see some of my "kids" again. My former students feel like that to me, and several of them are here as staff in one capacity or another.
The food, cooked by volunteers from a couple of the churches represented, is terrific!
(But I'm missing my supper.)
Counselors come just below the heavenly angels.
That's all I have time for now. Now that I know the one location on the campground with wi-fi and have the access code I'll come up here and post, hopefully daily. Just wanted to let you know it's going well. I'm having fun, the kids are fascinating to watch and a joy to teach.

Sounds like things are going well! Hey, you should go on the blob (that's the big, colorful thing in the lake) while you're there. Most importantly, make sure it's documented on film and blogged.
