It's a memory improvement class. Seriously.
It's been awhile since I put any videos in my blog so here are two.
This one is about how to make a variety of high-performance paper airplanes and includes videos.
I'm not an alarmist and not inclined to believe the sky is falling. I'm old enough to have heard too many times that a disastrous collapse is just around the corner. But this brief video is dramatic.
From the crime blotter, a pair of Walmart employees robbed their store by using a key to enter the cash office and take $45,000. They were quickly caught. Adriano Altiveras III said he wanted the money to buy a car. His partner in crime, 23-year old Spencer Cullen explained she needed the money for sex change surgery.
Do people pay in cash for that kind of thing?
Meanwhile, just outside of San Diego a guy went in to rob a 7-Eleven with the only disguise he could come up with - a Gumby costume. The sole employee told the would-be robber there wasn't time for joking around. He had too much cleaning to do. Security video shows the thief fumbling for a gun he never could get out of his Gumby pocket so he just left. The employee was so sure it was a joke that he didn't even bother to call the cops for another six hours.
"Hmmm. Maybe that guy was serious."
Sunday is the 10th anniversary of the attacks of 9/11/01. The press is giving it lots of attention and that's fine. But what, if any attention should it be given in a church service?
I used to tell my guys that if an event was on everyone's mind they should acknowledge it in their sermon. In some cases, as in the unexpected death of a well-known individual in the congregation, it may be appropriate to ditch the planned sermon and speak to what everyone is thinking about.
That said, I'm disinclined to set aside spiritual matters for the national. Patriotism is a good thing, it's just not the calling of the local church. Which is also why you shouldn't expect a Mother's Day sermon at Pathway. The good is the enemy of the best. And where does it end? Father's Day, Labor Day, President's Day, Talk Like a Pirate Day....? (Now there's a sermon.)
The feds busted 91 people today - doctors and nurses among them - in a massive operation targeting Medicare fraud. The perps had bilked the govt. out of $295 million.
Doesn't seem like a lot of money compared to the amount the folks in D.C. have wracked up in national debt. Makes me think of that proverb, "A penny saved is a penny earned." Or in this case, $295 million saved.

I'd pay good money to hear a Talk Like a Pirate Day sermon.
