"Every man serves a useful purpose: A miser, for example, makes a wonderful ancestor." - Laurence J. Peter
Let's start off with a little video clip, something to remind you just how boring and pedantic your life is.
Air Sailing
Did you notice the lyrics in the background music? I like 'em!
It is SO nice to have cool (low 70's) weather in the morning! It makes the 105 afternoon temp almost tolerable.
I had a good couple of hours with Ilsa this morning. "Good" in this context means I worked carefully and precisely on a couple of tricky tasks. So the quantitative progress doesn't amount to much but given my ADD tendency to hurry through things I like the qualitative nature of my work. Because I learned from Steve, the guy who built my engine, exactly how the fan should go in the shroud I took that apart and reassembled it, this time with feeler gauges to insure accuracy. Then I cleaned and installed the oil cooler, a task that required precision to get the fit just right.
Since learning the approximate value of the finished product I'm thinking more about my work. Steve has built a great motor and Pat will give me back a very, very good body. The rest of the mechanicals and interior are all my responsibility, and while I can't match their professionalism I also don't want to be at the opposite end of the spectrum, either in appearance or performance. I'm preparing myself for the eventuality that after it's all done I'll find things I have to disassemble and redo. It is, after all, my first (and probably last) foray into a pan-off restoration. It's probably unrealistic to think I'll get everything right.
But that's what I want.
This is a tough sermon. The passage (Rom. 1:16-17) is what we call dense, containing so much significant content in so few words that each of the phrases could be a sermon. How do you do the lot of them justice in less than 35 minutes? I'm struggling to structure this one so as to get it all in and give each of the critical concepts their due.
Arizona ranks first in the nation for bicyclists getting hit by cars. That stinks.
I heard on the national news that R.E.M. is breaking up. So much for a good night's sleep.
