What would you write in a thought balloon above each of these individuals?
It's total coincidence that this story about a dress follows last night's video but the parallels are at least interesting. And the news story is too cool not to pass along.
I woke up in the wee hours of Saturday morning with sore muscles in my lower back. That's not unusual and I typically come out to spend the rest of the night in my chair. All's good. But this time all got worse as Saturday wore on, and by yesterday I found walking difficult. By last night, even after liberal doses of Ibuprofen and a heating pad I was pretty much froze up. This morning I sent an email to the people I was supposed to work for tomorrow and told them there would be no lifting (replacing) of toilets or laying on my back replacing bathroom sink faucets. I have no idea where this problem came from but I really want it to go away very soon. I've never had any back issues last more than a day.
More complications with Ilsa. The muffler I got with the car - it was sitting on the floor inside - is brand new, and the wrong one. It's too wide by 1". After quite a bit of research I've learned it fits the 1300 engine which didn't come out until 1966.
Aaargh!
(my back hurts!)
One of the best non-fiction books I ever read was "All God's Children and Blue Suede Shoes" by Kenneth Myers. First published in 1989 as a paperback it's still in print and I highly recommend it! The very readable book taught me about the three kinds of art - high, folk and pop. Myers writes that these three categories apply whether we're talking visual arts, language arts or music. Then he talks about approaching art from a Christian perspective. How does art reflect God's design and/or the presence of sin? I know that sounds philosophical and arcane but it really is a well written, readable and thought provoking book. I've actually read it two or three times and it's one of few paperbacks to survive in my library.
I thought about that book today after reading a story in this week's TIME magazine about an art exhibition that included pictures of the artist's work. The words modern and abstract fit. That book emboldened me to assert it ain't art just because somebody calls it art. There are objective standards by which something can be legitimately identified as art (or not art) as well as good or bad art.
So if you're looking to read something that will stimulate you to fresh thinking about the world around you from a Christian perspective read this book.
Gov. Christie, are you listening to what's going on with the debates and straw polls? How 'bout you, Rep. Ryan? Gov. Daniels?
Please???
The group Apologetix is the Christian music equivalent of Weird Al Yankovic. They've done some really good parodies, one of which I think I might use in my class this Sunday. Their "Ain't Been Nothin' Yet" is just too appropriate for where we are in our OT survey. And in another few weeks, "Nomony." Check 'em out on iTunes.
