"There cannot be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full." - Henry Kissinger

Which of these things is not like the others?

I can't think of any other business context where paying customers would make an appointment and then wait two hours past that time to be served - and it wouldn't warrant even a mention of the delay, never mind an apology. Doctors seem to think something about their line of work exempts them from common courtesies.

Pam had her 24-hour surgical follow-up this morning, and after waiting that two hours we spent less than 10 minutes in His Highness's presence. All is very good with her eye and unless there's a problem she goes back next Wednesday for another check. Last night was rough and she needed the pain meds every four hours, but by 4 a.m. things turned a corner and Ibuprofen did the trick. Now it's just time and patience, especially when it comes time to go back for another dr. visit.

The Rambler's carb is back to leaking, so it's time to order a rebuild kit and replace the gaskets. Drat! But it's a cheap fix and shouldn't take that long.
Sunday afternoon I pick up the VW body!! (he said with well-earned skepticism)
So it's going to look a little like an auto shop here for a few weeks.

Greed is alive and well in the U.S.A.

I learned a new term tonight watching National Geographic Wild - "apex predator." Some of them were predictable, like Great White Sharks and Grizzlies. I would never have come up with the electric eel.
I was shocked!
(sorry)
But did you know they put out enough electricity to stun a full grown man?

It's bike week here in Cave Creek, a semi-rural community on the NE side. Horse country, basically. It's not Sturgis or Daytona but there are enough hard core Harley riders out there to craft the interiors of a thousand Bentleys, so long as you want them in black.
Law enforcement is present in significant numbers, too. Sonny Barger, the most famous member of the Hell's Angels and the founder of the Oakland, CA chapter has lived there for the last several years, and until recently had a bike repair shop there.
Makes me wish I still had my BMW RT-P. I could go for a ride out there tomorrow. I'm sure they'd think that was just... swell!
