Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

Uhm....

People are the best part. The problem is that they live all over the country and I don't.
Coming back to Grand Rapids only reminds me how important and valuable to me the Michigan people are. They should all move to AZ, shouldn't they?

And it's very good to see colleagues, including many who were my students. That's a special joy.

I jumped on the throttle some today, and didn't throw it into corners but at least gave it a decent toss. It corners well, but my point of comparison is a Kia Sorento, not exactly a roller skate. So maybe next time I should rent an Cooper S so I can have a better base for comparison.

I read through the Rambler shop manual on the plane ride from Phx to DTW, highlighter in hand. Learned a lot. This is dealer installed AC, which is why it doesn't have the bigger radiator, 6-blade fan and fan shroud that it would have if it came from the factory with AC. I learned that the factory also installed a bigger alternator to handle the extra electrical load. What are the chances I'm missing that, too? Yep, I'll check when I get home but I don't expect to see it there. Fortunately, that is also an easy fix.

I am making work of following the D-backs and so far they're justifying my efforts. It's a lot easier to get involved in their efforts when they're winning games. Yes, I am a fair-weather fan but you can't expect die hard the first year in.

The conference started tonight. The primary speaker is a man named Knute Larson, a good Norwegian name. But he says it "Nute" instead of the solid Norske pronunciation that puts the "k" on the front. My maternal grandmother's maiden name was Knudson and you better believe the "k" sound was included.

I spent the day with people and had a dozen or more interesting conversations. My ADD brain loved it.
People who were part of my Celebration flock, college students, and colleagues in ministry. Enjoyed it.

But now I'm sleepy, and I'm feeling the effects of traveling across the country and changing time zones.
Which is to say that I know this is an unusually brief post and I'll try to do better tomorrow. Tonight I'm going to bed!
