"Men have become the tools of their tools." - Henry David Thoreau
I am a car guy.
I have a 3-core radiator for a '66 Rambler sitting in the guest room and I'm not the least bit embarrassed to say so. In fact, it makes me very happy!
And I finished the VW's headliner today. I wasn't happy with the way parts of it came out so I changed some things. The B-pillar was mohair like the rest of it but I ordered a replacement in vinyl. Not only does it look a lot better, it won't soil and wear like the mohair would have from getting in and out of the car. It's not year-correct for a '62, but up until 1960 that's what VW did - mohair on the roof and sides except for the B-pillar and under the rear quarter window. And this isn't the only place where I've deviated from pure stock for practical reasons. I converted the engine to 12v and the heating to the '63 and later "fresh air" system.
This isn't a show car. I'm not looking for concours points. I want a very nice daily driver, a head turner.
We didn't turn on the heat all winter. We've got a cold front moving through and it will get down to the high 40's overnight, but we'll be back into the 70's tomorrow and into the 90's by midweek. How long can we go without turning on the AC?
I'll miss those 90's because I leave very early Monday morning and fly to Detroit. From there I'll pick up a rental car and drive three hours across the state to Grand Rapids for a pastor's conference. I'll reverse the trip on Friday and be home Friday night. The temps there will be in the 50's and 60's all week so I'll pack my jacket.
It's helpful to get away, especially when it allows me to take in instead of giving out.
"If your output exceeds your input then your upkeep will be your downfall."
I haven't been away from Pathway since our camping trip last August and I'm ready for a break. Besides the opportunity to listen to others speak on issues affecting pastors and to talk shop with friends & colleagues, the trip to G.R. allows me to see dear friends who were "flock" during the six years I pastored Celebration Bible Church. Double benefit.
Turns out Secret Service is a double entendre.
Yo-Yo Ma is coming to town for a concert next Sunday. Someday I'll get to hear him in person.
Saturday, the day after I get back, there's a big Nash/Rambler/AMC show in town, part of a 3-day event that draws people and cars from all over the western U.S. Gonna go see me some nice cars.
Pam wants a Nash Metropolitan.
It's Saturday night and I've been busy since way too early this morning. I'm going to get everything set out for tomorrow morning's efforts and then sit me down with a cup of coffee and a pan of brownies.
