"I can think of nothing less pleasurable than a life devoted to pleasure." - John D. Rockefeller
Pam's working today. Not my favorite for Sundays but it happens infrequently and we're thankful for a job she loves.
Late this afternoon I saw a very small lizard - maybe 1.5" long - scampering across our bedroom floor. Which do you suppose would bother her more, the 8" lizard in the garage or the much smaller version in our bedroom?
A: we're never going to know because we're not going to tell her about either one!!
I had a ton of content in both the morning's sermon and my adult class lesson afterward, so I pretty much flew through both. I hope both made some sense to somebody.
In the MAJOR BUMMER category...
I won't be winning that contest that awards $25,000 toward a car at the auction in Monterey late this summer.
I didn't understand the rules. When I entered the contest through the Bosch Facebook page I filled in all my info and then took a 16 question timed quiz about automotive parts and design called the "Gut Check Challenge." The time is so short that you don't have time to think about those question, you have to go with your gut reaction. If you get 16 of 20 multiple choice questions correct you advance to the second round where you answer three essay questions.
I thought the quiz was just for fun, but it turns out to be the key to winning the thing. All those who get into the second round will have their essay questions judged by a panel and the one who gets the highest rating wins the $25k for a car.
The quiz has some questions that any self respecting car guy will know. I had to go through it so fast that I can't remember any of the specifics, but I remember one that asked the difference between a regular internal combustion engine and a rotary engine. (The latter has no pistons.) But others were very specific to Bosch products, including about the alloy they use for their spark plug core. Huh??
Can you spell "guess?"
Alas, at the end of that first round it doesn't tell you how close you came to that 16 correct answers, just that - in my case - I didn't make it. I'd like to think I came close, but that's probably not good enough. I say "probably" because after reading the rules I learned they have a provision for what happens if nobody makes it to 16. But I'm sure many will.
This means there's no reason to continue pouring over the online catalogs for the auctions, figuring out which cars might interest me AND fall below the $25k figure. Too bad, because I think I had a pretty good list.
I'll just go back to working on my '66 Rambler American and my '62 Beetle, neither of which will appear on any auction block in Monterey.
I have more stuff in my head, stuff from this morning. But my Sunday evening mind is foggy enough that I shouldn't try to write about anything significant until I've had a fourth meal and a good night's sleep. Both will wait until Pam gets home, but not long after.
