"Spare no expense to save money on this one." - Samuel Goldwyn

I can't imagine...

We're in the throes of a monsoon cycle that's going on longer than I think we've seen since moving here six years ago. We currently have a temp of 105 and a heat index of 64, much higher than normal.  The pattern started a couple of days ago and will last through Wednesday, with a continuing chance of thunderstorms through then. Here in the far NW valley we only got a trace last night so I'm still hoping for a downpour.

I have used weather.com, but they recently changed their layout and it's now all messed up. The default page for a location shows the forecast for the next 24 hours but you have to go to a separate page to see current conditions and a radar map. My friend Jim mentioned Weather Underground (Wunderground.com) and this afternoon I finally remembered to go there and then enter my location. MUCH better. More data, better layout. I'm still learning what's where but the Sun City page has replaced weather.com in my bookmarks.

I'm betting you cannot watch this without smiling. And I'll give odds you chuckle out loud at the end. I did.

This morning's sermon was outside my wheelhouse. There are different types and the sermon I feel most comfortable with is didactic, heavy on the teaching aspect. This morning's - the trilogy of sermons that began this morning - more designed for the heart than the head. Some guys find that easier but for me it's more challenging. Accordingly, I'm feeling the effects of the effort this evening. Pam had to work today and will get home a little before 8. My goal is to be awake when she gets here.

In this state of physical and emotional fatigue I got an email this afternoon from a colleague I know, but not well. It was very gracious, and I told him so in my reply. It felt especially good on this Sunday afternoon.

I'm sorry for those affected by the massacre in Aurora, CO, the families of those killed and injured. But hasn't this brief hiatus from the political wrangling been refreshing? There has to be a better way to get them to shut up for a bit. What about a law that only allows campaigning 6 days out of 7, and they have to take the same day off?

She'd better hurry home.

Prayed for my dear pastor this morning on the way home from a from-the-heart-to-the-heart word that lifted my head! Connor is so proud that he's going into 4th grade AND that he gets to stay with the grown ups in the first hour... he really loves listening to you although he has a really hard time sitting still enough for my liking :) Today I asked him what he remembered or learned from the teaching. He said, "That when someone spanks you its cause God loves you." Sigh. Smile. He's listening, I'll take it! Tucked Ryland in to the youtube song Jesus Loves Even Me. It's a keeper!
