Two wrongs are only the beginning.
It turns out that eating lunch at 11:00 because you're really, really hungry means that your stomach is ready for dinner at 4:00. That, in turn, makes it difficult to wait until 8:00 for supper.
In the food and drink department, we're apparently not yet back in the groove after vacation. The one of us who goes into grocery stores hasn't, and as a result we had an emergency today. We ran completely out of both Diet Coke and chips of any kind at the same time. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so because Pam worked today I drove all the way to Basha's, almost a half mile away, to stock up on both. As it turns out, the trip was well timed. They happened to have a table with a variety of baked goods set up on the far side of the store - must have been a special holiday or something - and one of the choices was a clear plastic container holding two very large cinnamon rolls...which now sit on our counter.
I heard today that in the year 2000 there were two million pay phones in the U.S. Today there are one quarter that number. Can you think of a place near you that has one?
In related news, Weekly Reader is being closed down by Scholastic Corp. which bought it earlier this year. End of an era.
Why do they buy something just to close it down?
It's hot here. But it's not a dry heat. Because it's monsoon season we've got a temp at 6 p.m. of 108 and with the humidity at 25% it feels like 113. Blech!
Tomorrow should be interesting. Alas, I wont be able to post about it until sometime Thursday.
In the morning Pam has a meeting at the hospital for the people of her unit, but the administration is having the same meeting with each unit throughout the day. Medicare announces changes in October and implements them in November. The administration doesn't expect these to be good for the business side of things because of federal budget problems and "Obamacare." So the expectation is that these meetings will explain the cuts to be made at the hospital. Yeah, it's assumed the administration already knows what Medicare is going to say and is acting now in light of their plans. The hospital has already made staffing cuts and more are expected. Will the number of Unit Coordinators be reduced? Hours reduced? Benefits?
In the afternoon I have an angiogram. I report to the hospital at 2, have the hour-long procedure at 3, and then spend the next four hours in recovery. It's possible they'll keep me overnight. Either way, I won't be writing a blog entry.
This procedure comes as a result of my bike incident. The cardiologist agrees the crash was probably caused by some mechanical issue with the bike, but the subsequent medical tests showed a few cardiac anomalies that he wants to check out. By themselves each of these irregularities wouldn't be a concern, but he finds the combination, "very interesting" so he wants to go in and take a look. Or he's got a boat payment due. Either way I'm not concerned. I told Pam that I wouldn't be able to do the workouts I have the last few days if anything was wrong with my ticker.
I hope I get to watch the screen. I'd love to see the inside of my heart. Is the video in color?
