Very briefly...

I'm on a brief layover in Detroit and will be in Grand Rapids about 3:30. The 3.5 hour flight here was uneventful. I paid the $29 to upgrade my seat and had an exit row aisle. It was either that or sandwiched in a middle seat at the back of the plane, and scanning the waiting horde convinced me it was money well spent.

Some people are rude, and/or self-absorbed, and/or clueless. A surprising number of them take trips on airplanes.

Pam and I have both had bad experiences with Delta. No specific event, just surly employees and bad service. I think their employees must have had a Come To Jesus meeting with management because everyone I encountered, from ticket counter to gate attendants to flight attendants was cheerful and beyond courteous. I told the flight attendant who poured my coffee that I was impressed with what seemed to me a dramatic change and she gushed. I heard her tell two other flight attendants that I'd "had a good experience." That also made me think they're working on a new corporate culture. Then needed it.

The food choices in the A terminal are limited. So limited that the one outfit serving reasonably healthy food came on the public address system to apologize for running out of food. "But we still have some cookies to help stave off your hunger."
I hadn't eaten anything except a banana on the way to the airport at 4 a.m. so at 1:30 p.m. I had a Quizno's sub. Turkey, avocado, and BACON. It's sitting like a brick, but that is probably just going without food for that long.

OK, time to hike to my gate for the 1-hour flight to Grand Rapids. Eager to see friends but no looking forward to the environmental shock that will come when I step outside.
