"Burt Reynolds once asked me out. I was in his room." - Phyllis Diller
The bank Credit Suisse will pay a $2.6 billion fine for helping Americans evade taxes. GM will pay $35 million for killing Americans.
I've designated Monday as "Get a Lot of Stuff Done on the Truck" day. Except today. I took Pam to work so I could have her car to run downtown. Stopped on the way to talk to Spencer, the guy who taught the body & paint classes, but he doesn't come in until 10. OK, on to the spring shop to see what the guy says about the back-to-front rake of the frame. I took careful measurements and pictures along, he looked them over, and said he thinks I'll be very close to exactly where it should be once everything is back together. OK. He's the pro. But best, he said he won't charge me for any tweaking that needs to be done when that time comes. Nice!
Stopped in to see Spencer on the way home to find out he'd called in sick. Drat! I didn't get home until after 11:00 and needed FOOD. (Ate b'fast at 5:00 and couldn't have Second B'fast because I was on the road.) So I ate lunch and then worked for about 90 minutes sanding the other fender and the hood before it got too hot to work in the garage. So I still have the door and the tailgate left to sand. I'm unclear what should come next, which is why I want to talk to Spencer.
This morning I bought Pam's airline ticket for VACATION!
Sunday, July 6, we'll go to lunch after church and I'll leave from there with the teardrop in tow. That has me going through L.A. about six hours later, the only time slot in the week when I shouldn't have much traffic. Pam will work Monday and fly to Portland Tuesday morning, by which time I should be there waiting for her. The drive from here to L.A. and from there up the CA central valley is about as boring as they come with nothing for a 100 miles at a time. I'll get most of it done through the night when temps are down, pull into a rest stop and climb into the teardrop for a nap when needed, and listen to a book on CD (via the iPad) to keep my mind occupied. It's 20 hours from here to Portland (a little longer if you're pulling a trailer), and I've got about 36 hours to get it done, so it shouldn't be a problem.
The best part: from the airport we'll drive about an hour SSE to Silver Falls State Park to begin our 12 days of camping. I'm especially eager this year. You can have your all-inclusive luxury resort or the cruise with towel animals on your bed each night. Give us the teardrop, a 2-burner Coleman stove on the worn wooden picnic table at our campsite, and nothing but nature. We'll camp along the coast, too, but wait until you see the pics of Silver Falls!
A few days ago the classical station played the overture to an opera by Mozart....that he wrote when he was 12.
What were you doing when you were 12?
I'm meeting a rep from New Tribes Mission tomorrow at a nearby Starbucks. I've talked to him a couple of times on the phone but have NO idea what he looks like. How does this work? I'll be there an hour or so earlier working on stuff for Sunday so I'll make sure I'm facing the door looking for a guy looking for a guy.

There's a big difference betwen Credit Suisse and GM: GM is owned to the tune of 17.5% of stock by a favored political group -- the UAW. Credit Suisse, much to their misfortune, is not.
Agreed, Mike!
